Then the Republicans figured they could get dumb white people to vote against their own economic interests by playing on the racial, religious and sexual fears of the white working class. It started with Nixon's Southern Strategy, continued on with Reagan's mythical welfare queens and young bucks, Bush Sr. Willie Horton ads, Bush Jr. promising to stop the gheys from getting married, until finally we get Trump with his trading in the dog whistle for a racist bullhorn. All the while, the white working class has become weaker while the investor class has become richer. But now even the investor class is seeing what a dangerous lunatic has been unleashed on the country.

Now, Ironically, the entire conservative movement has been destroyed in service of rationalizing one bad man. Family Value types defend having an affair with a porn star while your third wife is home with your fifth child. Security Conservatives defend gutting NATO and sucking up to Putin and Kim Jong Un. Fiscal Conservatives think running up 8 Trillion in new debt is fine!
