That sounds like a serious anti-stimulus.

Taking discretionary money out of the pockets of people who would be spending on vehicles or home improvements or vacations.

Forget the home improvements and vacations, how about food, fuel, utilities?


I'm guessing/hoping those who would be priced out of food, fuel and utilities would qualify for subsidies.

Of course, a friend of mine said he qualifies for subsidies but still can't afford the insurance because he would have to pay the premiums out of pocket first and get the subsidy as a tax refund, and he doesn't have the money to pay out of pocket up front.

I never followed up with him on that. I hope it turned out that he was mistaken about that.
