Labour's Sadiq Khan elected mayor of London

Some parts of London are like a banana republic when it comes to elections. It will be interesting so see what caused such a massive mess up in Londons largest borough, Barnet, which is also home to Londons largest Jewish community and comservative voters.

Last year in Tower Hamlets:

An east London mayor has been removed from office and a poll declared void after he was found guilty of electoral fraud.

An Election Commissioner concluded Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman breached election rules and must vacate his post immediately.

Four voters alleged he used "corrupt and illegal practices" in last year's election, which must now be re-run.

Mr Rahman, who denied any wrong-doing, has been banned from standing again.

At the special High Court hearing, Election Commissioner Richard Mawrey also ordered Mr Rahman to pay £250,000 in costs.

One of Mr Rahman's aides, Alibor Choudhury, was also found guilty of corrupt and illegal practices.

Tower Hamlets First, Mr Rahman's party, said the judgement was a "shock" and it was seeking further legal advice in relation to a judicial review.

Mr Mawrey - who sat as a judge - said the mayor had "driven a coach and horses through election law and didn't care".

Any Jewish Brit who stays in Britain.....didn't learn a thing from the 1930s.......Jews need to leave Britain while they still can.....
The safest place for the Jewish people to go is Israel. They need to flood Israel and take back their land from the foreigners who are not supposed to be there.

Barnet Lib Dem Party are demanding a full public inquiry as at one point 4 out of 5 voters, even those with their polling cards, were turned away and not allowed to vote.
Tommy funnied this. Seems he thinks this effront to democracy, with 4 out of 5 voters being turned away, is amusing.
A tory council outsources its election work to Crapita and they fuck it up. You couldnt make it up.

Khan has been a staunch supporter of Human Rights and has spoken out against Tory proposals. He is a big supporter of Gay Rights and voted for same sex marriage recently.
As a Solicitor he specialised in defending people against human rights abuses.
He has done amazingly well for a bus drivers son who was brought up in a council flat.

He is a bit Blairite for my tastes but he is a lot more acceptable than his Old Etonian opponent.

I am genuinely baffled at the reaction to this.

There are valid concerns about Sharia law and the hatred of non Muslims rearing its ugly head in Europe as it has in the recent past.
How would you know? Have you lived in Europe? I have. I lived there recently for 4 years, and I spend at least 2 months every year there. There is no more worry about Sharia Law being instituted in Europe than it being instituted in the US. It's made up hysteria, nothing more.

As far as hatred of non-Muslims, all countries, historically and in the present, have problems and conflicts due to immigration: it has happened in the US since the inception of the country, and it has happened all over the world since the emergence of mankind.

All of you blather on and on about London and Europe as if you actually have a clue what it is like there, and you don't.

None of this stuff is new or anything to get hysterical about. Anyone with common sense and a vision that takes into account the human condition as well as history would understand that.
You claim to live there, rest assured that does not make you an expert by any means. Are you an attorney admitted to practice, a legislator, an educator in the areas of law or government where you claim to live? If not, what expertise do you bring to the discussion that actually qualifies you to hold your self out as the expert you claim to be.

For example, "A German court has ruled that Islamists who patrolled a city's streets as "Sharia police" did not break the law and will not be prosecuted.

Nine were arrested in September 2014 after patrolling streets in Wuppertal, western Germany. They wore bright orange jackets with the words "Sharia police". They told passers-by not to frequent discos, casinos or bars."
German court lets off 'Sharia police' patrol in Wuppertal - BBC News

Perhaps you would like to be accosted while going about your daily activities, I would not.

Another example, "Serving officers in terrorist hotspots including London and Birmingham said that forces are becoming increasingly nervy over the rising threat of Islamic State (ISIS) inspired attacks, with some telling staff not to wear their uniforms in their OWN patrol cars.

the police have to ask local Muslim leaders for PERMISSION before sending patrols into their communities."

‘Trump is right!’ Police say parts of Britain ARE no-go areas due to ISIS radicalisation

This is another instance of an ever growing problem.

Rather than call people names and try to beat them down with your poor choice of destructive and demeaning words perhaps you can actually discuss this issue.

Helps if you use up to date information:
'Sharia police' who patrolled German city of Wuppertal in orange vests to face trial | News | DW.COM | 03.05.2016

Oh, and try as I might, I've never come across a "no go area" in my neck of the woods, the Midlands. Also my wife used to work in London where she was responsible for all her company's branches in both the city and the Thames Valley area. She regularly used to visit predominantly ethnic minority areas and the only trouble she experianced was from the sweaty white pervs on the Underground going from place to place. There are places only the foolhardy would go into after dark, but every city in the world has those areas.

From your source:

"The Salafists, who are all aged between 24 and 35, first made headlines in September 2014 after they patrolled the streets of Wuppertal, in Germany's western industrial Ruhr region, in an attempt to enforce a strict interpretation of Islam.

Wearing orange vests, emblazoned with the words "Shariah police," the defendants allegedly demanded people at nightclubs stop drinking alcohol and listening to music.

The bearded fundamentalists were also observed calling for an end to gambling as they carried notices, in English, declaring a "Sharia Controlled Zone."

NRW popular state for Salafists

At the time of the reports, German Chancellor Angela Merkel commented that no one had the right to do the police's work for them.

Wuppertal Police Chief Birgitta Rademacher said: "Intimidation or provocation won't be tolerated," adding that only police appointed and employed by the state had the legitimate right to act as police in Germany."

Thanks you have buttressed my argument.

This story is all un-named sources. Its bollox, a fill space exercise.Birmingham is supposed to have these no go areas and they dont. I have been working in Birmingham for over a decade and its a pretty chilled place.

The German story has more substance in that it got before a judge who decided that these kids did nothing wrong. When I was a child we used to go to Manchester to watch footie matches. There was always an old buffer outside the gates with a board which said "Repent, the end is nigh".
This is the same thing.
Not even close, just you blustery bollocks bandying about the boards.

Exactly with your eyes, I will not dispute that, nevertheless, that does not makes you an expert on the issue, in toto, just on your experience and your interpretation of the issue.

I think that's from my source, but I don't see how it "butresses your argument". The German authorities quite rightly took action against a small group of extremist nut-jobs, just like the U.S. authorities took action against a similar lunatic group in Oregon recently when local authorities had appeared to cave in to them.

Thanks you have buttressed my argument.

I think that's from my source, but I don't see how it "butresses your argument". The German authorities quite rightly took action against a small group of extremist nut-jobs, just like the U.S. authorities took action against a similar lunatic group in Oregon recently when local authorities had appeared to cave in to them.
Yes it from your source. I am establishing that there is an issue to be discussed. What you have done is fortify my position with your article as opposed to the argument this is a fallacy.
