Low-wage EMPLOYERS are the real ‘welfare queens’

The federal minimum wage of $7.25 is now worth 30 percent less than it was in the 1960s, after adjusting for inflation. It is quite literally a poverty wage — if you support a child, working full-time at the federal minimum will land you $650 below the federal poverty line; supporting two kids will put you more than $4,000 beneath it.

We’ve noted before that low-wage employers shift some of their labor costs onto the backs of taxpayers by encouraging their workers to apply for public benefits. These employers are the true “welfare queens,” their profits indirectly subsidized by the public, which allows them to keep prices artificially low. We’ve argued in the past that this is one of several reasons why conservatives who oppose spending on the social safety net should favor raising the minimum to a point where workers can get by on their own labor.

A report released this week by the Economic Policy Institute quantifies just how much taxpayers would save by raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour, as Barack Obama has proposed. The full report can be downloaded at the Economic Policy Institute’s website.

No one but a bunch of brain damaged Obama drones is buying the meme that the government is subsidizing Walmart because some of its employees get government benefits. The minute I read that bullshit, I stop reading.

Employers subsidize the government. Not the other way around. If the employers werent there gov't would be on the hook for all their expenses.
Sheesh. How many times do we have to prove this?

So when did a job you suppose to start in high school support you and a family? Maybe your kind should educate kids instead of indoctrinating them. Like you did at north carolina university. God, your proof of the liberal failure.

Someone with $5/hour skills should get paid $5/hour. Therefore, a business paying a low wage to a low skilled employee isn't a welfare queen. The son of a bitch that demands welfare because they provide so little to society in the way of skills should look in the mirror and see the cause. What they will see is a reflection of themselves not the employer that is being forced to pay them more than they are worth.

It is not the employer's responsibility to guarantee a certain minimum lifestyle to their workers.

If you believe we as a society should carry this burden then fine we do so, but this is regardless of their employment status and has absolutely nothing to do with their employer, if there is one.
