Majority of Republicans do not see value in a higher education

According to Pew research, By a steep 22-point margin, Republicans now believe American colleges and universities have a net negative effect on the country. In 2010, Republicans still said college was a good thing by a 26-point margin. So that’s a complete collapse in GOP support for higher education (self-identified Democrats and independents have always thought college is good by overwhelming, 40-point plus margins, and still do).
Trump represents the dumbing down of the USA
They voted for Trump to stop technology from advancing. They think he'll get rid of automation and bring back 19th century jobs for them. They hate higher education because they remember being pissed as young adults when their successful friends from High School came back to visit the town and everybody made a big deal about their visit.

If you are an example of higher educations, they are probably right. Didn't you have to pass a reading comprehension test or take a course in basic logic? Believing (rightly) that many of our colleges and universities are little more than overpriced propaganda factories which produce political malcontents who do not contribute to our society in a constructive manner, this view does not portray a lack of value in higher education, nor does it represent a "dumbing down of the USA."
I went to college, I now have a net worth over 5 million dollars. I enjoy giving back to my community and nation for my good fortune.
College works if you work to make it work.
Too many Trump supporters don't want to work at obtaining the skills required in today's work force. Those skills can be obtained through higher education and trade schools.
You wouldn't be posting here if your net worth was even a fraction of 1 million.

Nice try, moron.
I hate to disappoint you but my net worth is the truth but you are probably right that I am a moron for posting here.

You make the case for why colleges are failing. Look at the shit-for-brains a lot of colleges are churning out.
Colleges are not perfect. They do turn out a lot of idiots; Donald Trump is an example.
We need to focus education on skills needed in today's work force. The US has to go to India and other countries to find people with the education needed because there are not enough in the USA.

Gotta newsflash for you... the Indians are not all they are cracked up to be.

I went to college. I learned to need a safe space. While I'm not an effective employee, I do consider everyone's feelings. Unless of course said feelings fail to be in-line with my college indoctrination, because those people should just die. Exception being those who are fat, black & LGBT. We let them slide cuz they're cute.
You are a woos, no wonder you are another failure who voted for Trump.
A woos? Careful, your educations is showing.

BTW, have a link to this *Laughing* poll?

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE:

This New MIT Master’s Program Doesn’t Require A College Or High School Degree.

“Ten percent of the students are from China, and then there is a big group of them from India. In total, there are 182 countries represented as part of the program, even some from the U.S.”

I do not hate "higher education".

Nothing in the op justifies that characterization of the issue.

I have tremendous disagreements with the way higher education in this nation is handled.

Do you care what those are, or are you just here to troll?

Most colleges and universities are nothing more than Liberal indoctrination mills. So of course they're detrimental to America. With their preponderance of Liberal/Socialist/Marxist professor and instructors they can not be anything less.

From '95 to 98 I attended a Liberal Arts (heavy on the "Liberal) college. Out of all of my professors, one PhD holder kept her political affiliation and beliefs to herself. She allowed divergent opinion to be discussed and debated in her classroom with retribution and/or retaliation.

I was fortunate to graduate in 2016 from a University that frowned on professors trying to teach their political beliefs. I didn't have a single professor that attempted to influence students in any way, shape, manner, or form to accept or refute any political party. All debate was strictly moderated so as ideas were shared without rancor. As a matter of fact there were a couple of professors that were released because they failed to abide by those standards.

So yes, there are some that actually try to teach instead of steering and molding students into a particular political ideology, be it Left or Right.
I will be sure to tell my doctors, dentists, accountants, and the engineers, and IT professionals that I know, that there is no need to ever attend a college

Certainly the Republican Party should be opening trade schools for conservatives.

^^ THIS, is what represents dumbing down the USA.

CS or even math degree is not something many oppose. The Marxist pure brainwashing degrees on the other hand... the people come back dumber than they went in.

Of course, one problem is that universities have become leftist churches.

Honestly now, have you ever read a book cover to cover?

Have read 22 books cover to cover so far this year. :) Reading 2 right now. Halfway through Jewish Supremacism and just started the latest Vince Flynn book which is written by Kyle Mills.

I'm actually retired at a young age, yet I still solve problems daily. When I was an employee, all my co-workers were college educated. However, my formal education expands to the 4th grade, and go figure, I wrote for a living.

Not only did I write much better than my colleagues, but I was one of only two able to do a proper analysis. 10% of my time was spent reworking trash developed by the college educated. Another 20% of my time was entertaining liberal thoughts that always had the same results, which was busy-work and/or failure.
Dude, what the hell is your background? You have give us two completely different bios.

Ha, say what? Computer systems, business processes & requirements, shit like that. Many of the college ed. I worked with were high on politics and emotions, low on positive effect. As an example, when an engineer left for a promotion, I took over his task of tracking results. It was a full time job. Heck. 80 hours later it was automated, with a template. I spent 10 minutes a week to back it up, just cuz. I'm not a programmer.

Don't get me wrong, formal education is cool and all. Lends itself to more cash, better careers. Helps dumb people to be nearly functional, and hopefully our most intelligent highly skilled. But seems to me they're letting us down..................................Much of the reason is politics, propaganda, low standards and a pampered public.

I responded seriously and honestly, and even respectfully to your post.

And this is how you reply?

YOu just demonstrated a complete lack of respect for the very concept of the free exchange of ideas, or competition of ideas.

Quite ironic coming from the person emotionally defending higher education. As it is currently practiced.

I can see why, most did not make it out of high school, why go on to higher education? A waste of time, Trump has it right.

I do not disagree with anything you said

I have no issue with college nor do I discount it's value but the truth is it's not for everyone some people thrive in the classroom environment some people don't. There are those who learn by doing better than they do sitting in classroom reading about something we as nation now seem to greatly undervalue tradesmen and craftsmen you can make a very good living as a plumber or auto mechanic to name a couple just ask anyone who has needed one.

Fucking-A right they are. I worked in information systems, and not only were the Indians more skilled and capable, they didn't create the drama of their American counterparts. Far more easy to deal with, and very polite too. Matter of fact, most of the American programmers made excuses, while the Indians made shit happen.
