Maryland vs. Florida Gun Laws

All of that in the list of tyrannies is unconstitutional.

The Framers are likely rolling over in their graves.

Where was the armed hero? This is FL after all.

It was a gun free zone...and they are law abiding citizens. The law left them unarmed..again.
Why do you believe it was a gun free zone? In FL?

We have gun free zones here in Ohio, and our gun laws are very liberal.
So give proof this was a gun free zone.

Wrong.

This is merely a policy of the property owner, not a law or ordinance.

Patrons licensed to do so can legally carry firearms on the property – and because the guns are carried concealed (it is illegal to open carry in Florida), the property owner has no idea a patron is armed with a gun.

Consequently, this is not a ‘gun free zone.’

In Florida the notion of a ‘gun free zone’ is a myth.

It turns out the firearms used in Jacksonville were legally purchased in Maryland.

The handguns - a .45 caliber and 9mm - were purchased legally recently in Maryland by (he who shall not be named)* from a licensed dealer, according to Williams.

So, what does that mean...did Maryland's strict gun laws work as gun-control proponents claim?

Apparently not...

Maryland is one of the most regulated states for handgun sales in America...they have everything a gun-controller tells us will reduce mass shootings.

A seven day waiting period.

Universal background checks...including private sales, (the purposely misleadingly labeled 'gun show loophole').

Both state and federal background checks.

Permits required for all handgun sales...including private transactions.

Mandatory training and and issued Handgun Qualification Certificate.

Mandatory registration of all handguns.

Fingerprinting required for all handgun purchases.

Ban on all high capacity magazines.

Gun laws in Maryland - Wikipedia

The Jacksonville shooter brought two guns to make up for limited magazine capacity...just like anyone with common sense would understand a shooter would. Between the two handguns, the shooter had 20 round capacity.

I've seen threads on this subject alluding to the gun laws of Florida, thinking they were scoring political points,...what do they have to say now?

He passed every requirement gun-controllers claim would reduce mass-shootings...will they finally admit they are wrong?

The dead count was far less than usual.

Yeah, yo're still pissed about that, huh?

So you believe that if a business owner declares a property gun free, criminals won't follow it. But if ... huh huh ... government ... declares a gun free zone. Poof! Shooters will follow the law!

OMG, you're more stupid than I thought. I didn't think that was possible

With all those gun laws clearly Baltimore is a very safe place.

You are wrong.....they have a gun free zone policy at that location......specifically barring anyone but law enforcement from carrying guns.

As is the case in well over 90% of mass shootings, the Jacksonville Landing is a gun-free zone.

Here’s the relevant section from the Landing’s rules of conduct:

So just to recap, carrying a firearm on Landing property is prohibited. As, of course, is murder. And yet those prohibitions didn’t affect the shooter today.

Ignorant nonsense.

The gun laws of both Maryland and Florida are perfectly Constitutional, having not been struck down by the Supreme Court as in violation of the Second Amendment, exactly as intended by the Framers.

Yes....and you also believe that keeping Blacks from voting through Poll Taxes and Literacy tests was all well and good until the 14th Amendment was passed too...right?

C_Clayton, I'm sorry, but you're the poorest representative for the Constitution I've ever seen on the Internet. Respectfully.

You have no understanding of it so far as I've seen. None.

To paraphrase the old adage – one is entitled to his subjective opinion as to what the Constitution means; he is not, however, entitled to his own facts of Constitutional law.

The Supreme Court alone determines what laws, policies, and measures of government are Constitutional, and what laws, policies, and measures are not.

A law, policy, or measure is not un-Constitutional until such time as the Supreme Court rules that it is.

Absent a ruling by the Supreme Court, acts of government are presumed to be Constitutional, in deference to the will of the people, as expressed through their elected representatives.

And consequently the gun laws of Maryland and Florida are perfectly Constitutional, until the Supreme Court rules otherwise.

Well from your link;
Williams said investigators believe Katz shot only one gun during the incident, targeting other gamers, and walking past patrons in the restaurant.

Investigators believe...IOW, not a fact. Nine other people were shot.
So was it the lower capacity magazine we can thank for the low death count?

He didn't have a lower capacity...he brought two guns that held 20 rounds combined. That's more than a standard hi-cap magazine with 17.

The kid had mental issues and was on serious meds

He went thru a state and federal universal background check, was fingerprinted, got a permit to buy a handgun, registered both guns with the state, waited 7 days to pick it up, had to get handgun certified....TWICE...less that a month ago...

...and it was all useless.

The law permits property owners to have gun restrictions. They don't have to do that. They could very well say that an armed citizen can carry anyplace they desire, and no property owner could stop that.

Patrons licensed to do so can legally carry firearms on the property – and because the guns are carried concealed (it is illegal to open carry in Florida), the property owner has no idea a patron is armed with a gun.

I don't know what the penalties are in Fla, but here, you can lose your license for carrying in a forbidden area; especially government areas.

So gun carriers don't take that chance. Something could happen to you where you need medical attention. You may get into an argument with somebody that results in a fight. If you squat down, your shirt can lift up and expose your weapon if you are using a back holster.

There are a number of ways a carrier can get caught illegally carrying a weapon.

And he still killed far fewer than typical with mass shootings. Compare to the school shooting and night club shootings also in FL. Seems a rifle with high capacity magazines kills a lot more.

He killed far fewer than in many other mass shootings. If he had a rifle with high capacity magazines many more would be dead. Thank the Maryland assault rifle ban.

You don’t know shit about guns. Good Lord.

You think that if he really wanted an AR, he wouldn't have stopped in another state on the way to Florida?

He killed just a couple of people, and it had noting to do with the capacity of the weapons he had. He had more rounds to kill more people and didn't use them.

What is constant though is that it happened in a gun-free zone like most of the mass shootings. He passed a background check to purchase the weapons he used, so this phony assertion that tougher background checks would stop mass killings is proven inaccurate in this case.

In other words, none of the Democrat solutions would have prevented this killing.
