Republicans need to be as far away as they can from this issue by 2016

In two years, Gay marriage will be the law of the land. Continued fighting by Republicans will stamp them as an archaic party fighting to preserve past hatreds

But it's been more than 40 years and republicans are still hostile to privacy rights, still passing 'personhood' legislation, still advocating for a 'personhood' amendment, even though Griswold/Eisenstadt/Roe/Casey is settled and accepted case law.

It wouldn't be surprising if most republicans continue to be likewise hostile to equal protection rights for gay Americans for just as long.
