mixolydian mode in pop music

Actually in pop, you will rarely find Ionian mode (first position major scale). It will be Mixolydian, Aeolian (minor scale), Dorian mostly, and if they are good, multiple modes and tasteful passing notes used in a single song. Jazz is more of a major 7 kind of thing. Difference between Major scale and Mixolydian is the 7 and b7 respectively, obviously.

Sad to say I'm a tone deaf weasel so this is beyond me. I know what Mixolydian mode is, but I can't pick it put of a police line up.
