I remember hearing in 2016 the next Republican President hasn’t been born yet in 2013 Harry Reid and the Democrats used the nuclear option to get cabinet nominees and lower court justices confirmed on a simple majority vote on exactly that assumption. The only way it would never swing back again is if the Democrats goal in getting rid of the filibuster is so they can ram through legislation that would assure they would never lose power and create a single party rule also known as a dictatorship. Historically dictatorships lead to revolt and civil war seems like a hell of a lot to risk so a select few can have power.

All his speech told me was how terrified he is of democrats removing his power of being the grim reaper of legislation. He and the republicans have been abusing the filibuster for years which has resulted in destroying democracy in our senate.

Here's a suggestion, if he would stop the non stop filibuster the democrats wouldn't have to change it or get rid of it.

I do not know who changed the filibuster from how it originally worked, where a filibuster was a real filibuster and those supporting the filibuster had to stand on their feet, on the Senate floor, and argue and debate, their argument, for not moving forward with a bill...one at a time...And when they ran out of arguments to speak on, they had to take a cloture vote. (Mr Smith Went to Wasington, style)

and they could not just recite Green Eggs and Ham as their time filibustering.

The Senate changed the filibuster, to where no one had to even stand up and debate their concerns on the proposed bill, and could just easily be tabled by the minority.

That change, way back when, made the filibuster, which is allegedly 'unlimited debate', just a partisan tool, no debate or standing required...used by a minority in a disingenuous way...

I'm all for changing back the filibuster to what it was, when it originally was created by the Senate.
