Chris McDaniel "And the most conservative state in the republic..."

I don't agree with Chris McDaniel on much but-----but there's no doubt in my mind that McDaniel's onto something when he claims Mississippi is a conservative state

New research takes a look at decades of corruption convictions to find the crookedest states in the union.

<snip>

The researchers studied more than 25,000 convictions of public officials for violation of federal corruption laws between 1976 and 2008 as well as patterns in state spending to develop a corruption index that estimates the most and least corrupt states in the union. Based on this method, the the most corrupt states are:

1. Mississippi
2. Louisiana
3. Tennessee
4. Illinois
5. Pennsylvania
6. Alabama
7. Alaska
8. South Dakota
9. Kentucky

10. Florida

That these places landed on the list isn’t exactly surprising. Illinois, which has gain notoriety for its high-profile corruption cases in recent years, is paired with states like Mississippi and Louisiana, which are some of the least economically developed in the country. The researchers also found that for 9 out of the 10 of the most corrupt states, overall state spending was higher than in less corrupt states (South Dakota was the only exception). Attacking corruption, the researchers argue, could be a good way to bring down state spending without hurting services that people need.

Researchers also found that spending in these states was different than their less corrupt counterparts. According to the report,
“states with higher levels of corruption are likely to favor construction, salaries, borrowing, correction, and police protection at the expense of social sectors such as education, health and hospitals.”

The paper explains that construction spending, especially on big infrastructure projects, is particularly susceptible to corruption because the quality of large, nonstandard projects are difficult for the public to gauge, while the industry is dominated by a few monopolistic firms. Corrupt states also tend to, for obvious reasons, simply have more and better paid public servants, including police and correctional officers. The researchers argue that the need for correctional officers is greater in corrupt places too because “the overall extent of corruption will be higher in states with higher numbers of convictions of public officials.”

Of course, it’s not all bad news, as the study also found the least corrupt states too. Citizens of these states–Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Vermont, Utah, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Kansas–can take solace in the fact that they’re not getting ripped off as badly as the rest of us.
.

Actually California is the crookedest state. They have bilked their taxpayers out of billions through higher taxes and stupid mandates.
Illinois comes close for the same reasons. Plus 3 of the last 4 governors either are in prison or served time there.

The southern states have been run by the "old boys network" for so long it's a cliche. The op does not even mention law enforcement corruption, the frigging cops down here are the worst kind of criminal scumbags.

Yes about the lack of education spending in my state over the past three and a half years. No on the construction, as it's a lack of infrastructure that has hurt the state's economy. Yes on prison/crime spending. As far as a large number of, well paid, public employees... I don't know.

Wrong again Rabbi!
The study says, there is a certain amount of corruption in every state but-----but the worst offenders are Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee and only then - Illinois. California OTOH is way down the list on the corruption scale, not showing up until #22 and-----and the study found that high corruption states "also tended to spend less per capita on education, public welfare, health and hospitals."
Do you have a reading problem or-----or does your imagination just conjer stuff up to fit the Republican party's screwball ideology?

Here’s their list of corruption by state:

Schmuck. Look at the criteria they use. Change the criteria to "scams perpetrated against citizens in the name of green jobs through taxes and regulation" and CA easily takes the prize.

Rab, how many times do we have to tell you. You can't just make shit up.

You get pwned about 40 times a day here, caught posting stuff that is easily disproved. You are the least reliable poster here. Virtually everything you know is wrong. Why would anyone believe anything you write?

This all changes depending on the methodology used to create the scores. IN some instances, DC, FL and NY are the big winners for corruption.

The more GOP, the more corrupt, of course. I'ts called deregulation lol...
Wrong! Corruption has no party affiliation. Corruption is nothing more than an offspring of dishonesty. Couple dishonesty with opportunity and you will get corruption.

Corruption is more prevalent among liberals because they already believe that they are owed something.

If "stuff" "is easily disproved", why do you just make "stuff" up?

How much does California get back from the federal government for every dollar they send? You don't know? Figures.

Why do Texas and other Red States go to California looking for skilled workers? You don't know? Figures.

You don't know much. Figures.

California state Sen. Leland Yee, an outspoken advocate for gun control, has been indicted on charges of arms trafficking and public corruption.

Illinois state Rep. Keith Farnham, a Democrat, has resigned after it was revealed he is being investigated for child pornography. Pennsylvania state Sen. Leanna Washington has been ordered to stand trial on corruption charges. The FBI and Internal Revenue Service have raided the home and office of Rhode Island House Speaker Gordon Fox, a Democrat, in a “criminal investigation.” Patrick Cannon, the Democratic mayor of Charlotte, N.C., has been arrested by the FBI, and faces federal charges of theft and bribery.

For years now, it has become obvious that politicians are no longer the best of society or the accomplished individuals the Founders expected would be drawn to public service. Instead, lawmakers, in charge of our lives and protecting the free world, are tending to be the worst of society.

This is no surprise, however, in what is becoming a one-party system. I’m not speaking of Democrats and Republicans per se, but of liberalism controlling the political landscape in both parties.

Believing that big, nanny-state government is the solution, you must also believe the average citizen cannot control his own life, that government is the only answer for a nation of what lawmakers see as drooling, incompetent infants.

Politicians’ contempt for the citizen is illustrated every time they exempt themselves from the laws they create for us. They are above the law in their own minds; ergo, better than everyone else.

Contempt for the citizenry grows, and a surveillance state is put into place to ostensibly protect us from ourselves. In truth, it exposes the distrust and contempt the lawmakers hold for “regular” people.

Once liberal lawmakers control pretty much everything, there’s no challenge at all to ongoing criminal and unconstitutional behavior. After all, why stop? Laws are for the “little people.”

A different agenda driven spin.

What does that have to do with being crooked? Yeah nothing.

Disappointed in the ranking of my home state of Illinois. Thought for sure they'd be higher what with Pontiac Prison recently dedicating their new Governors' Wing, in addition to the recently completed Chicago City Council soccer field and jogging track.
