I think it's been around for awhile.

I believe the President defined it as $200,000/yr in income for an individual, and $250,000 for a married couple.

Ironically, it will cost all of us a great deal. Rich, poor, and indifferent are going t pay dearly if he gets his way. Possibly it will cost us our very nation

In short, I don't give a crap about billionaires, I'm only interested in whatever policies help the rest of us the most. If that means they get the lion's share of the new wealth, so be it.

They shoulder the lions share of the risk as well.

It is self protection. If it acceptable to steal by vote from one set of people, it is acceptable to steal by vote from any group of people.

If we once go along with the concept that there are acceptable targets that can be robbed with impunity, then the rights of all of us to safe enjoyment of what is ours are annihilated. The rich paid 39.5% or so under Clinton. Were they then as endangered as you pretend now?

How does this logic used by the Right work again? You start off with a budget surplus and a booming economy. You cut taxes on the richest Americans, start two foreign wars and finance them with bonds sold to a communist country. Turn the whole mess over, after the inevitable collapse, to a Democrat President. Stonewall each and every one of his programs. Call HIM a communist (after using a communist bank to finance your ineffective wars) and then blame the whole kit and kabboodle on him.

If I could find anything that even smells like common sense in this approach, I'd be eligible for a Nobel Prize in economics.

But looking for common sense in economic terms when studying a purely political problem is an exercise in futility.

The 39.5% that the rich paid under Clinton is totally irrevelent. Millionaires and Billionaires don't pay income tax on SALARY. They pay MOST of their taxes on Cap Gains Tax. Ask Warren Buffet or Jimmy Buffet for that matter. That's how economically illiterate most of you lefties are...

It can't be help the deficit because there simply is not enough cash amung the "rich" to make a difference. Why are we raising taxes in a resession? It doesn't matter on who ... Wasn't the theory accurate when the rich have more (and they most certainly do!), the capital will 'trickle down' to the rest of us poor working stiffs?

And lets cut to the crap Dean--if Obama wanted to raise taxes on the filthy rich in this country he would have done it when he had a two year window to do it--with a FULL house of democrats--and no opposition. Obama didn't do it--because he didn't have DEMOCRAT support in doing so.

Because EVERYONE knows that when the Federal Government confiscates others money--that there is LESS money to spread around and stimulate the economy. And the Democrat lead house under Nancy Pelosi and the Senate lead by Harry Reid knew that too.

The economy is still in shambles--in fact unemployment is up again--and NO ONE--I mean no one is going to support raising anyone's taxes at this time.

So Obama's traveling around the country rolling out his hate speech--rich vs poor--is nothing more than a campaign strategy--and the exact same one that worked for him in 2008 to rally the left wing masses.

Liberalism: less economic freedom, more social freedom
Conservativism: more economic freedom, less social freedoms

That's just the way these ideologies are defined. But if you really want applied examples, Conservatives want cencorship, imposing religious values into society, outlawing personal drug use, opposing violent video games, opposing violence and indecency in movies and music, support draft, and the list goes on.
