We have two "major" candidates who are fairly repulsive. Both of them have highly questionable pasts and blatantly unattractive personalities. Even worse, they also represent parties that have been entirely taken over by their zealots and crazies.

That means that we can just let that stuff cancel itself out, and yes, there's a ton, but just wipe it all away and look at what remains -- what they're promising to do and how they're promising to do it. Forget the personalities even exist and drill down on their plans on the issues, pretty easily found on their websites.
