Nursing homes account for major share of coronavirus deaths

Here's the dirty little shutdown secret. That vast majority of COVID deaths are in nursing homes or with nursing home residents who were brought to the hospital. The average age of people who die from COVID is 78. That's higher than the average lifespan for Americans. COVID is not a disease that the vast majority of Americans have to be concerned about.

The true extent of the problem is explained in an audio program here:

This nespaper article goes over some of the statistics, but the problem is actually far worse than what it describes.

Nursing homes account for major share of coronavirus deaths

Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities account for a major share of COVID-19 deaths, a tragedy that appears to be attributable to the vulnerability of the population, poor conditions at facilities, and a series of policy failures.

Data from the health departments of six states with the highest number of coronavirus deaths shows that a large percentage occurred in long-term care facilities. In Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, the percentage of coronavirus deaths occurring in nursing homes and other facilities is 37%, 32%, 57%, 32%, 13%, and 57%, respectively.

Altogether, more than 14,000 residents and employees at such facilities have died from COVID-19, which amounts to nearly one-quarter of total deaths from the virus, according to data from the New York Times.

Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities are highly susceptible to the coronavirus because residents often have weakened immune systems, and close interaction is required between the residents and staff members.
This is great. No more social security and Medicare payments to 80,000 people.
Now you worthless fucks can give out more drugs, alcohol, weed, and hotel rooms to more homeless illegals who dont and never have been producing persons in our economy... Lets kill some more people who payed into Social Security so we can redistribute their productive behaviors to more democrat hand out voters.

FUCK YOU!
We were all working before this virus. Feel free to go back to your job. I was only off 2 days. They called me back as essential. Sorry your company doesn’t consider you essentiall.

And don’t wear masks or social distance. Go to trump rallies. Inject bleach and ultraviolet light
LOL

What an ignorant twat.. A mask wont help you avoid catching this virus (wearing one only helps prevent your infected ass from getting others infected). I'll go to Trump rallies as I am not afraid of this virus and I hope they use ultraviolet radiation to kill the viruses in the air making it more safe for me to be at those rallies.

I know your hiding under your bed from this virus as no one is as stupid as you about the facts.
You don’t care about your parents and grandparents?
I am a grandparent you fucking idiot! And I have underlying conditions that make me very susceptible to this bug but I refuse to live in fear and know how to take reasonable precautions. Had we done this from the start there wouldn't have been a need to shut down our economy. I was trained in Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical warfare in the 70's and even back then these were standards the military taught to those of us who were holding the worlds lives in our hands. Those who should be teaching this failed in our civilian systems to teach the general populace and we have nearly 1 million deaths from flu every year. We dont run and hide from the flu but it is also only 1/5 as communicable.

The point is that there's no reason to shutdown the entire country for an epidemic that's restricted to a very narrow demographic. How does closing restaurants help people in nursing homes?

The ENTIRE Country was not shutdown. Restaurants can still do takeout. You know that, right?
I don't have the option of going back to work, douchebag.

You should have planned better.
You get unemployment, or do you consider that Socialism, and therefore denied it.
ROFL! So the TDS morons who insist that we shutdown the entire country to protect their 78 year-old grandma's don't give a fuck about anyone losing their source of income, going bankrupt and being kicked out onto the street.

What an asshole.

You people are exposing yourselves for what you truly are. You're motivated purely by Trump hatred.

YOur mask will not protect you
Correct!

He would have to be in a sealed biological level 4 suit (level A sealed suit) with a cleaned air supply. But he is to ignorant to understand that bypass aroound the mask allows the virus to enter a person wearing a mask or through the eyes or even when they wipe thier ass. They do not understand how these viruses are transmitted.
Why are you two claiming I don’t know this? What did I say that suggested I don’t know this?
I'm betting most didnt know it.....this whole mask charade is a farce....If it aint N95 it aint worth shit
Unless that mask is properly seated and you have eye protection its worthless as a cloth mask. I see idiots with N95 masks under thier noses... They may as well not wear a mask.

Thank you for pointing out the reason why Democratic governors were sending healthy seniors to COVID infested nursing homes in NM and COVID infected seniors to COVID free nursing homes in NY. Always knew liberals were scum.

o the TDS morons who insist that we shutdown the entire country to protect their 78 year-old grandma's

I actually CARE about both.
You just pretend to care, you are the moron in this case.

You said the ENTIRE Country was shut down,
I said that wasn't true.

Now, whose telling the LIE?
That would be YOU.

You just made it clear you don't care about anyone who loses his job.

You're a TDS scumbag.

You have to wonder what's going on in the mainstream media when Gov. Cuomo defends his order for nursing homes to admit infected virus patients and the media pretends it didn't happen. You have to scratch your head when New Yorkers are forced to wear masks and keep a six foot distance while 3.500 nursing home patients were (intentionally?) contaminated.
Bozo already answered that. To steal their SS and Medicare benefits.

Nursing homes are notorious for spreading infection.

If someone gets the flu in a home, they reconfigure the whole place because it spreads and it's victims are very vulnerable.

Not a surprise that this happens in homes.

This was and is Sweden's issue. They let it get into a couple of large homes and it killed a lot of people who were on their way out anyway (meaning they were vulnerable).

They also dont care about the “ grandma’s”.

YOur mask will not protect you
We were also told originally to save them for health care. My wife just returned to elective surgery and they are already worried of a shortage.
There has been no common sense regarding most of the guildlines and shutdowns.

Majority of NM deaths are seniors in nursing homes and the Navajo Nation. Multiple family homes.

You're liberal compassion is heartwarming.
Now is when I get to rub your own words back in your republican face.

1. who’s fault is that you chose the profession you are in?

2. why don’t you have savings to get you through the tough times?

i remember your compassion for people during the bush Great Recession. Now we have the trump Great Depression. And it’s his fault. He fired the scientist who warned him in January.
It’s democrats who are forcing the draconian restrictions.
