Obama Extending Broadband Internet Access to Public Housing Residents

Fer fuck's sake, you people got nothing better to complain about? The private sector is going to contribute $70 million to this project. The US govt. is contributing a paltry $50k.

Who pays the monthly bills?
The tenants pay the monthly bills, just as they do for cable television service.

Did you miss the part where this whole program is littered with government grants? Do you think that money just fell off the government grant tree?
Grants to build and maintain the Wi-Fi infrastructure. But I saw nothing about subsidizing monthly payments..

So you're saying these ghetto dwellers are going to be paying the same price I do for internet service?
If so they are getting way to much money from the tax payers.

Not a peep about the trailer dwelling cracker vermin in the south getting getting electricity from the TVA which was a 100%government project. And the educated parts of the country had to pay for it so the slack jawed bible thumpers could have electricity

You're getting your panties in a twist over a private company and what they do with their money.
When what they do with "their" money, especially in the name of appearing benevolent, costs ME more, then yes, I take issue with it.

Do you have a problem with a private company donating to political campaigns? Where does THAT money come from?
Actually, I do. The main, if not only, reason they do that is to garner the potential for favorable (to them) legislation.

If you don't like what a private company does with the money you give them, you stop being a customer.
That's exactly what I do - when I actually have a choice, that is.

I'll wager that I don't pay the same internet fee as you. I probably don't pay the same rate for electricity as you and my telephone bill is likely different from yours. What's your point?

You're not paying anything.
What a dumb ass you are. What are you like 10? You think it costs nothing to get you your welfare shit? What a dumb ass.

Speaking of dumb asses, you should have read before you bothered to open your mouth and let the flies come out. Because this has already been addressed. This is not a welfare program. Private entities, including Google, are contributing $70 million to expand broadband access. Various ISPs will then be offering low priced internet service to public housing residents.

You idiot lunatics are so deranged you're selling your souls to double down on your hatred for Obama. This is exactly the kind of initiative we Republicans should be praising. It's a private sector solution, where businesses are taking action of their own free will, to mutually serve their business interests and their own desire to help communities.

Where do you think these "private entities" get the money to pay for this free shit? They pass the cost on to their paying customers.

Where do "private entities" get the money to donate to political campaigns?

This isn't "free shit". This is an investment opportunity. They are putting in the infrastructure, the tenants have to pay for monthly access. Jesus read the fucking links!!!!!
I read them. It's subsidized service. Who's do you think is subsidizing it? The man-in-the-moon?

The federal government will not be contributing money beyond the $50,000 allocated by the Department of Agriculture for broadband-related equipment deployed in the Choctaw tribal nation, Zients said. He also confirmed that the 27 local governments where the program is launching will not be required to pay for the program.

I know goddamn good an well that NOBODY pays as much for their fucking internet as I do. $150 a month for 25 gigs. :D

You're barking up the wrong tree.
I say fuck em,let em sweat.

Well there you go. You can stop doing business with:

Google Fiber, CenturyLink, Cox Communications and Sprint.

Do you really believe they are just giving away 70 million?:lmao:
They'll either write it off as a charitable donation or jack up everyone else's costs to cover it.
Either way,we the tax payer or internet subscriber will be paying for it.
You fucken liberals are either extremely naive or think that we are.

If you don't like the way Sprint spends their own money, you're welcome to not buy anything from Sprint.

Oh I dont. Sprint sucks.

I'd stop, but I'd have to start doing business with them first.

Wow free high speed internet and free "devices" I guess that means computers, tablets, and phones. How many will be pawned for drugs and alcohol? At $50 a month that's about $14 million a month this hand out will cost us.

:cuckoo:

In select markets, Sprint will offer free wireless broadband access to families with kids in public housing. In Seattle, CenturyLink Inc will provide broadband service for public housing residents for $9.95 a month for the first year.

Cox Communications Inc [COXC.UL] is offering home Internet for $9.95 a month to families with kids in school in four cities in Georgia, Louisiana and Connecticut.

I've already seen the forms for people who are eligible for other freebies. $10 internet, and either a free or drastically discounted computer to any household with a kid.

What a dumb ass you are. What are you like 10? You think it costs nothing to get you your welfare shit? What a dumb ass.

No...he's pointing out that you did not read any of the links provide by him and ibd...that showed this is being paid for through the private sector.
Hey dumb ass... the tax payers ARE THE PRIVATE SECTOR. These corporations are merely charging their existing customers through their government supplied monopolies to fun this supposedly free shit that is being paid for by the private sector. I pay my effing bills and a portion of my bill goes to fund these moochers. This is nothing more than a welfare tax.

Sprint is paying for it. Sprint and other private companies. Read the REAL links, not the one provided by Section 8 housing resident Stephanie.
And Sprint is paying for it with money received from it's customer base, aka taxpayers.

Okay...so your issue is with Sprint, not "Obama" as Welfare recipient Stephanie is claiming.

I guess this doesn't belong in politics eh?

So do you also get this incensed over the billions that private companies donate to political campaigns you don't agree with?
It should be illegal for corporations to charge me for service only to give it to my neighbor for free. We used to have a thing called pricing laws. However this government (starting with Bush) has turned that on it's head and rewards monopolies to corporations who charge a first customer double so it can give the same product to another customer for free. And why do they do this? Why to buy votes for the politicians that give them monopolies on our services.

In other words, it's out government job to break up monopolies that do stuff like this... but in our upside down country we now have a government that subsists on monopolies that do stuff like this. Sprint's to big to fail because politicians are owned by Sprint.

Sounds like the rich really don't want the poor having any opportunities at all. The internet is a way of, you know, learning stuff, applying for jobs and all sorts of things. Now, if you don't want them to do these sorts of things, you should just say so.

There may be a few people who will use it to better themselves.

Maybe. The main point would be that it certainly isn't going to come from the US govt which doesn't seem interested in changing the fortunes of poorer people. Let them rot, then stand over them sneering about how they could make it if they worked hard, but without a decent education that's just a lie, unless they can play basketball.

Oh I dont. Sprint sucks.
Sure they suck, but they also have a monopoly on service to many areas of the country.

The program I saw was just a few weeks ago and a little diff from this one..this is from 2014:

"
Price: $10 a month (plus taxes and fees); Comcast also offers a basic computer for $150.
Speed: 5 megabits per second downloads (uploads are 1 mbps)
Eligibility: Subscribers must have one child eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program (for a family of four, that's annual income below $44,123) and must not have subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the past 90 days.
What's new: Comcast is offering up to six months of free service to new program participants, and "amnesty" for families that have unpaid Comcast bills more than one year old. "

Internet service at low prices for low-income households Faster speeds from CenturyLink and amnesty on unpaid bills from Comcast OregonLive.com
