Obama: Vietnam Leader Ho Chi Minh Was Inspired by Founding Fathers

just because he stole or paraphrased from a document means squat absent any tangible usage and or application of the platforms, axioms expressed there in, it was an idiotic and inane comparison, to the max.

East Germany was known as the German Democratic Republic, it wasn't even close.....

Obama wasn't comparing anyone and you and the OP are too obsessed with your faux outrage to see that. All he said was he was inspired by them. He didn't defend what he did, just said he was inspired.
I also like how many Americans will point out the people the man killed but never mention what we did to the Vietnamese. So to sum it up, get over it, Presidents have to be diplomatic.

please tell me the point of his remark...:eusa_eh:

His point was him and the vietnamese President discussed how Ho Chi Minh was influenced by our founding fathers.
That is all he said, that was his point. Get over it.

I love how you can only find this on right wing blogs and how every one mentions the men who died over there. How about the innocent Vietnamese who were killed? I didn't see one mention that, and for a War Johnson should have never entered.

I'll get over it when you tell me why he made the remark..... it was clearly meant as a positive....he would not have said it as an insult or to demean ..right..?

how would that conversation have gone? "hey you know Jefferson inspired ho, he quoted from our declaration of indy.....but he never employed any of the meaning"..:eusa_hand:...

So why mention even a very small part of a document where in the man who wrote it never ever lived up to any of the tenets Jefferson and our declaration encompassed and expressed?

and I love how you try to turn this into an emotionally laden topic.

We also paid for France's war in Indochina- they were our proxy. It's a Dulles thing...

Yeah, okay.

I am the one who brought it up to show horrible Obama is. All the right has to do is mention dead vets and you guys go into full faux outrage retard mode.

This is insanity. Is Obama that ignorant or just that determined to kiss the butts of dictators?

I thought Obama studied the constitution. How did he see it as a thumbs up to dictatorship?

Stirewalt believes that the comments were either a gaffe and that the president didn't know about the atrocities committed by Ho Chi Minh or that he was being "morally flexible" to make his guest feel at home.

Ho Chi Minh lived in the US, maybe they discussed his time in the United States. Shit I don't know, and I don't care.
You guys are like women, reading too much into it. He mentioned they discussed it. That was all that was said. The President was being diplomatic, that is what Presidents do. Was he suppose to call him out?
Look up where Vietnam sends most of their exports to. ;)

You obviously are not. Why I am not surprised you have played into the faux outrage.

You obviously are not. Why I am not surprised you have played into the faux outrage.

You are confusing a massive amount of contempt for you with outrage over Obama, get over it.

contempt, outrage, whatever you feel you need to call it in order to sleep. Its all the samething. you are just trying to be different and create an argument out of nothing.

that wasn't the case here and whatever does that have to do with what I asked you?

stop trying to tell me I am wrong to think obama said something inane and dumb, tell me why its not inane and dumb.....

Recently register. I like this site. You guys will argue about anything. Being a rightwing leftest gun loving that likes socialist programs sprinkled into a capitalist system, I don't know if I will fit, but I do know that Ho expected the USA to support Vieatnams independence after our defeat of our mutual enemy, Japan. Worst mistake in American policy was to go along with the French after WWll and allow them to recolonizs IndoChina. So, ya, anyhow, Ho was inspired by the Founding Fathers in 1945 and the idea of our democracy and constitution, but as soon as we sided with the French things changed as he was pushed into obtaining aid from the communist to fight the French.

Obviously a history buff. Correct on all counts.

meaning what exactly? :eusa_eh:

Meaning it is what it is. Ho was prgmatic. He had confidence that he could adapt and adjust to whatever label was put on whatever "form" of government was set up after the French were gone. Elections and democracy would not be a problem. He knew he could win elections. He would be the "Washington" of Vietnam.

I do love Allan West and others are calling it a gaffe.

Not a big fan of Mother Jones, but here is a little perspective for the morons who know nothing about Vietnam.

" But Obama's comment wasn't a gaffe or insult to American war vets, as much as someone like Allen West would like it to be. What Obama said is literally a historical fact. In September 1945, Ho Chi Minh delivered the Declaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi to a crowd of nearly a million Vietnamese. Not only was the "The Star-Spangled Banner" played by a Vietnamese band during his address, but he opens his speech by quoting Thomas Jefferson. Here's the excerpt:

"All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness""

I am guessing this is what they were discussing Trajan.

So first off was Obama correct in saying he was inspired by Jefferson? And second did obama only say they discussed who Ho Chi Minh was inspired by?

Tell me again what was wrong about his statement and why he needs to apologize to vets?

thx for not reading any of the posts in between and going straight to inane...

so tell, me how did he apply the tenets/axions/principals of the declaration of independence to north Vietnam or south there after its fall?

I'll wait, take your time....

Not really surprising. Cabinet appointees claimed their personal hero was Chairman Mao. The elite media most likely feels the same way. The scum Carter pardoned after renouncing their citizenship have become the university elite and we know where their loyalties are. They are all poised for the revolution that Obama's buddy Bill Ayers tried to incite forty years ago but the joke is on them. The former community agitator they pinned their hopes on doesn't have the leadership ability or the intelligence to lead a parade much less a revolution.

Ho Chi Minh modeled the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence he pinned on the American model. Of course that was back in 1945 before the French we're given back it's former colonies.

You are absolutely correct.

For Obama to bring it up now, as if it is relevant to the country today, is completely asinine.

Of course, the far left never met a dictator they didn't like. How many people from Obama's administration went to the funeral for Chavez? How many went to pay respect for Margaret Thatcher?

If one judges by his actions, he is way more respectful of socialist or communist dictators than of capitalists. I know some people are completely fooled by Obama's speeches, but never realize that so much of the time, his words don't match his actions. The few times he was totally honest when speaking, the media rushed to cover it. I am think of the time he admitted to Joe the Plumber that he wanted to redistribute the wealth. Instead of blasting him for such a socialist view, the media attacked Joe. Bad Joe managed to trick Obama into telling the truth and we can't have that.

EEvery nation has a plan or system for redistributing its wealth, it is one of the responsibilities of government. Well every country except a communist country that does nnot use money or have wealth, from each....
