as for picking a side in Vietnam, it was a to an extent a pick your poison choice by that time, Ho a communist, Diem an oligarch. When we allowed Diem to be overthrown ( then assassinated) that ended any real hope of anything positive coming of it, vis a vis 'Vietnam' at all, not that I am totally convinced via hindsight that was ever possible.....

No, the real problem was picking a side at all. Diem wasn't just an oligarch, he was a collaborator. He was a Catholic, French Educated puppet who looked down on his own people.

And frankly, that was the best we had. The guys who followed him were much worse.

This is just garbage....you've never stepped foot in Vietnam, have never met or spoken to a peasant from that era, know nothing about the life they led or the level of terror they got by the bucket from the communists. Yet you speak like you have some insight when you have none, ZERO. This is, in fact, one of the strangest series of fictional comments I've ever seen on a political board. If you had any integrity you'd admit this has all been a hoax....a pitiful hoax.
