On this 4th of July........Don’t forget to thank a Liberal

To think of comparing and judging the Founders with today's conservatives and liberals is just silly.

However, today's far right and alt right Americans are, in fact, politically anti-freedom.

Proof: just read USMB daily.
They were the liberals of their time
Just like today’s liberals are the liberals of our time
In other words, their beliefs were totally different from yours.

The phrase "liberals of their time" is utterly meaningless since you allow the term "liberal" to mean virtually anything. All you're proving is what huge weasel you are.
The Dufus claims the Founding Fathers wanted a huge government controlling every aspect of our lives.

The founding fathers were incapable of forming a large government. The US was deeply in debt and had a weak economy
If they didn’t want future generations forming huge governments......they would have banned it

Congrats for the dumbest post of the day. If the foundling fathers didn't want huge governments they would have banned it. Guess it's also true that if Obama wasn't such an idiot he would have banned idiots from the country.

Conservatives have been wrong about everything. No different here.

Yeah, why am I not surprised.

Our founding fathers were the most liberal thinkers of their era

Imagine believing that all men were created equal, that royalty were no better than anyone else, that common people should vote

Conservatives supported theOur liberal founding fathers risked all to create a new nationh King ....that is where the power was

Our liberal founding fathers risked all to create a new nation
We make have to take care of the State of the Nation again in the very near future to protect it from the Dark Side of Government, meaning the Department of Justice, they have been showed how criminal activity has spread to not just that Department but into the core of the Nation. We should have been on guard but we never noted the signs.

Nothing in the tenth amendment prohibits a big government

Courts have upheld that for generations

The comical argument is basically this: The founding fathers rejected 90% of what modern American liberals support, but they were liberals because they believed in legal equality for rich and poor and believed kings were no better than other people. In other words, the founding fathers believed in free enterprise, minimal business regulation, gun rights, the divine origin of human rights, states rights/federalism, protecting unborn babies from abortion, religious freedom, public morality laws (including the outlawing of homosexuality), low taxation, a limited federal government, etc., etc., but, uh, they were "liberals."

No, 18th-century version of modern American liberalism was French Jacobinism. Jacobins were socialists in their economic thinking. Even though many Jacobins were wealthy, they played the class-warfare card and stirred up hatred toward the rich. When they came to power, the engaged in massive wealth/property confiscation. They disliked Christianity, attacked Christians, and shut down churches. They rejected traditional morality.

You can't use present-ism for one argument and discount it for the other, mike.

You would not get a pass in a freshman history course much less a graduate course for this nonsense.

Beside you have no grasp of what Jacobinism was then at all.

You are the one pitifully playing the class warfare card here.

Neotrotsky always lost when he tried this years ago.

Modern liberals would be fighting for King George and free healthcare
/——/ Modern liberals would champion King George’s high taxes and gun control.

It most certainly does, but Lincoln turned the Constitution into a fiction by invading any state that attempted to exercise its 10th Amendment rights.

James Madison, the principal architect of the Constitution, stated in Federalist 45:

"The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined."

Nor did he change his mind in his later years, writing that "With respect to the two words "general welfare,' I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators."

Thomas Jefferson saw it this way as well: "Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated."

The courts had ruled only the state legislatures and or federal amendment could give women the vote.

Guess what. Both happened. The courts were upheld.

Now it does not matter what Madison or Jefferson thought.

What?? The courts upheld laws that prohibited women from voting, Dufus.

Those courts said it had to be the state legislatures and the amendment process that gave women the vote. Those courts and their findings were followed.
Susan B. Anthony was charged with a crime for trying to vote.
Same with blacks.

Courts have a long history of piss poor decisions.

Ask Dred Scott.
