The forum is not very informative. Most news threads are based on world view. You click on something and its a partisan piece of propaganda, most likely the news and the point are not even true. Is that since the US Presidential election or has it just increased?

Good post above.

The Alt Right and the Far Left have been trying for years to eviscerate the concept of objectivity and facts.

They both succeeded in turning "truth" to the effectiveness of propaganda in the last election.

A singular example: the Alt Right finally overcame the firewall of "you can have your own opinions but not your own facts."

Only by adhering to the Constitution and legal procedure, aided by a fair and free press, can the barbarians be thrown out.

Watch the attacks below that argue against objectivity and critical thinking, wishing to substitute opinion and belief for actual facts.

You can indeed not have your own facts. For example, when there was an accident or catastrophe, it´s not "socialism" or "capitalism".

Would seem to me that the current state of bad journalism and "news" just makes message boards like USMB more relevant. Because message boards SPECIALIZE in topical discussion -- most other social media does not. And in fact -- most OTHER social media like the Tweets and FaceBook just FEEDS the partisan tribal wars.

I would hope that USMB moderation never gets into the "fact checker" business. Or takes a partisan side in any of this and ALLOWS -- as much as possible -- the chance for the MEMBERSHIP to sort thru the trash and find a couple nuggets of reliable truth.. That's why the haters and the disrupters are allowed to participate. To give anyone the ability to propose "a truth" and to get some "LEGAL" pushback on their views.

We are not censoring here. There are some "truths" and "conclusions" from that "truths" that deserve an extra subforum, though.
