pastor whining because town bans church on the beach

Pastor Fights Back After Delaware Town Bans Church Services on Rehoboth Beach | Fox News Insider

During an appearance on Fox and Friends, Pastor Dekker, of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, said that the city manager’s decision to ban beach services “created a real problem for me because my calling as a pastor is to communicate the gospel by word and by deed to ourselves, to our neighbors, and to the world so that the wonders of the gospel may be known by folks.”

Uh no dickhead....its not. You are to communicate to people who choose to come to your church...not harass people on a beach with your ranting and raving.

prove he is or was harassing people just because you're a religious bigot does not mean other people are

Yurt, a person cannot preach to others in a public place like a beach if s/hbecomes a public nuisance.

You don't have a right to preach to me in public if I don't want to hear it.
Go find another spot.

You're of course wrong dumbass. In this nation we have a right to free speech, which means we can preach in public places, you on the other hand have no protected right to silence in a public place. You don't want to hear it, stay in your living room, in public you cannot stop someone from preaching to you.

just another example of jakey being wrong?

Then we should have the right to yell right back or remove them from in my face/area. They are causing a nuisance which is why MOST places make you get a permit to do so...or business make you ask permission.
WTF is a xtian?

christian but it pisses off them when its said like that...

Lol, no, it really doesn't. We just assume you can't spell Christian.
go look at the atheist statue in Florida thread...they hate it!

Tell your friend the pastor there to keep his ranting about an invisible being in the church where it belongs...we won't have any problems...people want to claim christians aren't pushing their religion on us yet that sounds exactly what he wants to do. He thinks its his DUTY to harass people in the name of his god.Oh and exactly how do welfare recipients have due process? Far as I know you go in apply for it and get it.

That says it all son, you have proven you know very little about so much that you saying "as far as I know" means nothing to people with a 4th grade or better education.

Yurt and jtpr312 are merely yelling nothing more.

If they show up on a public beach and start preaching to you, and you tell them to go away, and the refuse, call the police.

The police will escort them off, and if Y and P get stupid, down to the lock up.

I don't care if it isn't endorsing a religion its harassing beach goers who have no interest in the rantings of a mad man. That shit belongs in a church not on a public beach.

How is he harassing beachgoers? He sounded perfectly sane to me.. cite some examples of "rantings of a mad man".

Preaching to people who came to a beach to use the beach for swimming, sunning, playing etc is harassment. His rantings are the fact he believes that shit he is talking about...he doesn't belong on the beach. Its just more proof that xtians think they can preach wherever they want when they want and to hell with laws or just common decency.

Your a fucking idiot, did you bother to watch the video? A member of his church asked him to hold services on the damn beach. He simply requested to use existing city facilities, he called it a band stand. He hasn't been out molesting any beach-goers so you might want to get your facts straight before you engage your ignorant assed pea brain and try to type.

Who is being harassed?

The town of Rehoboth Beach is, of course, unequivocally wrong. They are the ones violating the Constitution by denying this man and his followers freedom of religion.

You forgot freedom of assembly & freedom of speech.

I can remember when our nation took the same approach with regard to gays openly expressing their preferred relationships in public. An interesting observation towards the views of "acceptance" over the years.

Still not grasping that whole "no law" part, I see

He wants to pray...he can pray. If he wants to be loud and bother people who are trying to enjoy a day at the beach, then he becomes a public nuisance.

Beach parties aren't loud? Gay "pride" parades aren't loud? Neither are not a nuisance to someone somewhere somehow? Too bad that hearing about God has become so annoying to some people...

Yep beach parties are that's why u call the cops and get them to break it up...what Gay Pride parade is held on a beach? For parades of any kind your supposed to have a permit. Its an annoyance when people don't want to hear about it...for some maybe not then for some like me never...take that shit elsewhere...people aren't so dumb they don't know where to go if they want to hear about god...

Where does one go to hear the TRUTH regarding God? Every church is not teaching the truth. Some churches are simply telling people what they want to hear --- like homosexuality is okay simply because .... People are not dumb, some are just uneducated when it comes to the Bible.

Its a public beach not a church it doesn't belong there...Oh and obviously the city had complaints or they would not have cared to much...

On a public beach? Same thing...harassment/public nuisance and should be given the boot.

the issue is NOT harassment

you're being disingenuous about the issue and that is church and state

you are presuming your own bigotry onto the issue
Wrong as usual. Obviously someone has complained about these services...they don't belong there and the city is correct.

If the city allowed, allows, or intends to allow any other group to use the same facilities for whatever reason, then they have no moral right to exclude religious expression simply because they "feel" uncomfortable.

I do agree with equal access.

If the pastor can agree to reasonable restrictions (no PA blasting 1000 years down the sand), then, yes, give him the permit.

Who complained about something that has yet to occur. The pastor hasn't held any services on the beach to this point. Once again you prove yourself to be nothing but an ignorant ass.

Just a wee bit more information...

Pastor's permit denial inspires Independence Day rally

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — A pastor's plan to lead Sunday-morning services near the boardwalk here has evolved into a rally "in defiance of tyranny" and defending the principle of religious liberty after Rehoboth's city manager denied permission to have the services because of what he called church and state issues.

At 9:30 a.m. Thursday — Independence Day, as busy as the tourist season gets at the beach resorts — the Rev. Robert Dekker, pastor of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lewes, Del., intends to give a sermon on the beach at the end of Rehoboth Avenue.

STORY: Class at center of church-science debate

That came about after Dekker said he asked Rehoboth officials in late May for permission to lead Sunday morning services for eight weeks at the nearby public bandstand. Rehoboth City Manager Greg Ferrese turned him down.

"I cannot mix church and state," Ferrese's email reply to Dekker said. "I trust you understand."

But Dekker said Tuesday that he didn't understand — and didn't think the principle of church-state separation should lead to the denial of his request.

The City Manager was wrong in denying the permit.

Reasonable access and reasonable limitation can be the order of the day if both sides are sensible.

Lol...you hate homosexuality because a book of fiction told you so? So do you take the bible literally?
