Poll: Americans Want Obama to Negotiate

October 3 2013~
Let the nay saying begin!

"A majority of Americans want President Obama to negotiate with Congress over the debt ceiling, and nearly two-thirds oppose raising the debt without significant spending reforms attached, according to a recent poll from Ending Spending and the American Action Forum.

House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) said Wednesday following a meeting at the White House that the president had ”reiterated one more time tonight that he will not negotiate.” Obama and most Democrats favor a “clean” debt-ceiling hike without spending reforms attached. Meanwhile, House GOP leaders are said to be working on a larger budget deal to end the government and raise the debt ceiling with reforms."

Poll: Americans Want Obama to Negotiate | National Review Online

KEY FINDINGS
1. AN OPPORTUNITY: Obama is badly bruised. The President's numbers aren't strong, with an underwater approval rating (43% approve, 49% disapprove), and a generic congressional ballot that has Republicans ahead by 4 points (40% GOP, 36%DEM)

Maybe the Dems should compromise.

They will negotiate over the shutdown, but NOT over the debt ceiling.

Yes, if you consider the concession that Roberts made, supposedly to avoid the appearance of partisanship, it would be Democrats' turn to accept the olive branch offered
to prevent the appearance of partisan rejection.

I really wish the rest of Congress had the wisdom to recognize an extreme concession
when it was offered, and hope they have another chance to correct and accept such an offer.

If you believe that people agreeing in mind and spirit
can influence others to forgive and correct things,
I join you in asking more people to set aside differences
and focus on agreeing to correct as much as possible and not let divisions stop us. thanks!

they offered to give obama all the spending he wants in exchange for a one year delay in the individual mandate. This is fair and in concert with the one year delay that obama gave to big business.

unless they commit to this being the one and only time they will demand such an arbitrary waiver, its useless to entertain.

Not really a good analogy.

It's a perfectly accurate analogy.

Um, no, it's really not.

We can perfectly afford the payments, simply by raising taxes on the wealthy to pay for things that benefit them to start with.

And it's not like there aren't people who are perfectly willing to extend us credit, even with a AA rating. (We used to have a AAA rating until the nimrods screwed it up.)

Thank you Joe and Daveman:
Where's the agreement in the credit card policy
that each party charging expenses on THEIR spending
pays for their own spending?

So if you want to fund war instead of health care,
then let separate parties set up budgets and fund their parts.
And only where all parties agree on a central fund for all
people is that charged as federal budget by taxes.
And charges we don't all agree on, like health care or vet care,
can be split up with different parties taking on priorities
in exchange for other parties taking care of theirs, etc.

why is the taxpayer asked to pay for all these charges
without accountability of the return on the costs?

YOU just don't get it.

Our Credit Card is maxed out. We need a higher credit limit for spending that was approved months and years ago. And to finance our existing debt.

that is the lie he has been telling you, he stated in correctly in 2006 when he complained about bush raising the debt limit. we do not need to borrow more money to pay our debt.

there is plenty of money coming to the IRS to pay the interest on the debt.

do you really think we sell bonds to china in order to get money to pay interest to china on old bonds ?
When those bonds would be WORTHLESS...and it is the COMMERCE of tangible goods produced the Chinese are after to SELL to us.

The BONDS are just paper...and worthless.

Hey what do you think of this idea.
Why not assess debts owed to taxpayers for abusive, corrupt, wasteful
or unconstitutional spending by govt or corporations at public expense, and create credit systems of covering student loans, supervised internships and professional work to FIX the problems to cap the waste and reform the systems to produce revenue in the future.

Labor costs can be managed either by database
like the TIMES system in Washington DC founded by a law professor there.
OR
ITHACA Hours and Paul Glover have helped many communities to set up their
own legal currency based on labor-hours
Home or Ithaca Hours - Local Currency - Ithaca, New York

Glover also provides handbooks on local currency as well as health care coops
based on the same principles of organizing local communities and businesses
to support each other exchanging labor and services to invest and develop locally.

What if we could convert debts into payback to taxpayers
to cover labor to fix these problems, and charge the costs back to
govt politicans or corporations responsible for misspending taxpayers money

and also create jobs for lawyers and teams of law students
to track these cases and collect commission based on what they settle
and recoup on behalf of taxpayers who deserve to be paid back
and/or receive cost effective corrections and services we already paid for

Really MORE debt you want to give our children and future generations? REALLY?

How shallow of you.

we only pay interest on the debt.

its not like we pay back the whole thing.

relax.

Yeah it's such a little thing........

^^STUPID SHITHEAD^^

There are concessions all over the place...Obama won't negotiate...PERIOD. Neither will the weasel REID.

Put a sock in it BOY.

Name a single thing that Republucans have offered

A single one sock boy

they offered to give obama all the spending he wants in exchange for a one year delay in the individual mandate. This is fair and in concert with the one year delay that obama gave to big business.

This doesn’t make any sense (unsurprisingly).

The president doesn’t have the authority to ‘negotiate’ concerning existing Federal law. Nothing the president ‘agrees’ to is binding on Reid, Pelosi, or Congressional democrats; there’s nothing the president can do to compel Congressional democrats to vote to amend the ACA to implement a one year delay concerning the IM.

And whether or not the Senate agrees to consider amending the ACA to delay the IM provision has nothing to do whatsoever with funding the government or avoiding default.

Obama occupies a separate and distinct branch of the Federal government, separation of powers doctrine disallows the president dictating to Congress, and likewise Congress has no authority to dictate to the Executive how it should conduct its business.

Are you and others on the right truly this ignorant as to the basics of how your Federal government works?

How do you expect Obama find the time to take care of the nations business with his exhausting schedule? With only 3 years and 3+months left in his term in office he had to spend time posing for his official portrait. Things like that are important, require immediate attention, and will just wear a guy out!

Then he had to undergo an interview with the AP where some real hardball questions were thrown at him. (a little sports jargon for the reader) One of the toughest questions concerned his opinion of renaming the Washington Redskins football team. A lengthy lecture ensued and since the word 'redskins' offend some native Americans, Obama wants the name changed to the Washington powder puffs. (I actually made that last word up.)

All that and Saturday golf dates with campaign contributors hardly gives the poor guy time to work on silly stuff, like government shutdown, budgets and other boring things Presidents are supposed to do.

Ronald Reagan thought not raising the debt ceiling was a horrible idea:

Unfortunately, Congress consistently brings the government to the edge of default before facing its responsibility. This brinkmanship threatens the holders of government bonds and those who rely on Social Security and veterans benefits. Interest rates would skyrocket, instability would occur in financial markets, and the federal deficit would soar. The United States has a special responsibility to itself and the world to meet its obligations. It means we have a well-earned reputation for reliability and credibility -- two things that set us apart from much of the world."

Put a sock in it, you are making yourself look stupid. I doubt if you were concerned with the fact that bush spent 32% of his time on vacation (Crawford, Kennebunkport, Camp David, and other places). Note also that most of bush's vacation time occurred while the US was at war. All together he was away from the White House a total of 1020 days which is close to 3 years on vacation. All told Obama has been on the job far more than bush and only an idiot would look up to bush while condemning Obama for his vacation time.

Could be that a majority of Americans are far smarter than you and the progressives are and they are tired of the lies.

Cut spending, compromise with the Republicans and work together.

The world understands these things. Why don't the progressives?

We wouldn't be in this mess if the Republicans had left PAYGO in place. Don't blame 'progressives'.

Horseshit, we would not be in this mess if both parties had not engaged in deficit spending for years. Newt and Clinton fixed for a couple of years. Maybe this shutdown will give Barry and Boehner a chance to do what is right--------oh, forgot, Barry refuses to talk.

Do you even know what PAYGO was?

it was like everything you post a lie

All I have seen from Democrats is raise taxes. Relaxation or elimination of unneeded regulations and lowering the corporate tax rate would stimulate growth and increase revenue.
Eliminating some bloated government agencies would cut spending. A balanced budget Amendment would help if the Senate ever passes one. Putting Harry Reid in jail for illegally not allowing the Senate to pass a budget would do more good than anything I can think of.

The Senate passed a budget 6 months ago. Boehner refused to go to conference on it.

That is not true, the only budget bill voted on in the senate in the last 5 years was one sent over by the whitehouse, it was voted down 98-0.

Senate passes budget with $1 trillion tax hike - NBC Politics

Stop depending on the rightwing propaganda machine for your knowledge; it lies, consistently,

repeatedly,

and relentlessly.

lol, the outfit that took the poll in the OP?

They post this collage on their promotional 'clients' page:

And if you bother to read the poll, you'll see how they got the results their clients wanted.
