How long before the Right realizes the term "socialism" no longer scares people?

Please. This is pretty much what ALL politic are anymore. Fire up the base.
Well, that's not a good thing. Not only does it completely ignore the will of the majority of the country, it ensures that we'll continue to see wild swings in elections. The system needs to be changed, or the crazies will continue to milk it.
What system are you speaking of?
Um, the American national electoral system.
.

So voting needs to go away?
Yes,voting needs to go away.

The problem is exactly 180 degrees away from where you are looking.

A movement larger than you can imagine and less visible by choice is working on that. Be careful what you wish for.

Our conservative posters continue to start thread after thread pertaining to "socialism". And even though their exact definitions are fairly unclear, it's obvious they think that screaming SOCIALISM is, by itself, enough to win a debate.

As most of us can see, more and more people are becoming perfectly comfortable with the word - in part, no doubt, because the Right has completely over-used and diluted it.

Most of the people on this board are old, so they have preconceptions that come from 30, 40, 50 years ago.

The young people aren't scared by the word. Eventually, the old people will die and the young people will get older and take over society.

Of course, it doesn't mean the old people are wrong. They aren't IMHO. Socialism mostly sucks.

But it is ironic that so many of these old people who are scared by the word "socialism" like their socialist programs like Medicare and SS, and are cheering Trump's socialist tariff policies.

This ain't Europe bunny, and Social Security, just like ALL socialist ideas will implode just a matter of time. I am 70 my children may not see SS, and my grandchildren certainly will not.

Sure they will. All we have to do is make the rich pay their fair share and means test it.
LOL, the sound of real stupidity.
And, what exactly is the "fair share" for the rich?
Remember, you are asking them for something they don't need.

Socialism, in this country, will be a disaster that makes the current fiasco look like the "golden age". Go team!

Quite the contrary, the problem was for years, we robbed the Social Security Trust fund to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

A fair share? How about what they were paying before Ronnie Ray-gun screwed up the tax system and created perpetual growing debt?

We have one party pushing for fascism and one party pushing for socialism. What could go wrong?

We could put the Libertarian Anarchists in charge if their sugar daddies convince enough rubes that Anarchy is a good idea.

LOL. Unlikely. We'll probably end up with a mix of the socialism and fascism. Which, historically, always goes really well.

You are quite a fool. Social security was sold as being paid for by its own separate payroll taxes. And they have never been cut. Ever.

Yeah, when you organize your moderate army of 6%, let us know, Stormy Mac.

Fact is, 45% will vote Republican, no matter what kind of loser mutant they put on the ticket, and 48% will vote for the Democrat, no matter what kind of loser they put on the ticket.

This has been explained to you a bunch of times, Stormy, and you still don't get it.

The only thing that keeps the GOP alive right now is the Electoral Anachronism....
Democrats wish they had 48% support.

The Republicans have already turned the corner on socialism anyway. Fascists find a lot to like in socialism, once they get over the 'fear factor'.

So what's you're saying it's ok if someone making over $128,000 annually doesn't have to pay into social security? If there was no stop gap SS would be solvent a 100 years from now.

Don't you believe regardless of income you should pay into the system through payroll taxes?

How many rich people do you know that turns down SS when eligible to receive?

That's right.

Only 47.7%.

That's not correct.

Everyone pays into SS. However, you pay taxes up to $128,000, and then don't pay thereafter. Then, when you retire, you will receive benefits from SS based on your contributed amount over your lifetime. IOW, the amount you can receive is capped based on how much you pay.

SS is structured like a defined contribution pension fund. In such a pension system, you receive an amount based on what you pay into it.

The rich shouldn't pay anymore into the system unless they receive more from the fund.
