Let's hope men don't march like this.

Did these women fear that no one would realize they were women? And what about the women who don't see things the way Ashly Judd and Madonna do? Do they matter or are they the 'wrong kind' of women? Pro-life, Christian conservative women were not welcome and got no coverage from the media for their own march.

I don't think free abortion is a right. That seems to be the main issue they were marching for since there was nothing else of substance mentioned. Judd went down the list of what the left hates. Confederate flag owners apparently aren't covered under freedom of speech, if you believe what the left is saying.

btw- if you don't believe in abortion, then don't have one. & you should worry more about the media black out trump is imposing & the clear violation of the FIRST amendment. btw...not allowing the confederate flag to fly on federal or state property is not violating the right to free speech. flying it on your own property is a right & should be protected no matter how filthy that is.

That's only for the EPA but it will be fun to see watch happens there. Let's not forget that while Americans are discontent about their government, they voted more against Hillary than for Trump. Trump admin institutes media blackout for EPA, suspends social media activity

The Republican Congress has to be eying 2018 and Trump's policies and actions will reflect directing on the outcomes in November 2018.

As for the LW revisionist history of the mid-1800s, most Americans, there too, think it's more about Southern pride than racism as the LW always pushes. A fact which is sure to work against the Democrats and may partially explain why Trump is President and not Hillary.

Poll: Majority sees Confederate flag as Southern pride - CNNPolitics.com
American public opinion on the Confederate flag remains about where it was 15 years ago, with most describing the flag as a symbol of Southern pride more than one of racism, according to a new CNN/ORC poll. And questions about how far to go to remove references to the Confederacy from public life prompt broad racial divides.

The poll shows that 57% of Americans see the flag more as a symbol of Southern pride than as a symbol of racism, about the same as in 2000 when 59% said they viewed it as a symbol of pride.

uh-huh... m'k, & sure.

btw - it matters not about 'southern pride' & you can even forget about the clear rascism it's representation it conjures up. it was treasonous to say the least to try & secede from the union. THAT is why it should not be flown on government property.

i don't... she knew what she was getting into & married him anyway. her interview with 'people' mag she said she met him when he was on a date with another woman & asked for her number. that alone says much.
...yeah, unlike the loyal steadfast husband Bill Clinton turned out to be.

Again, it's a minority opinion that the flag symbolizes only racism.

Secondly, the Civil War is part of our history. To deny it, attempt to remove it or otherwise revise it is purely Political Correctness gone insane.

& i said forget the racism part of it. nobody is denying anything historical either. showcase them in history museums.... even those once funded by the government- ESPECIALLY them... but thanx to the orange overlord the funding for the arts have been slashed & all kinds of museums will be affected. however- on federal or state government buildings it should not be tolerated because a treasonous act was waged against the union. THAT would be 'political correctness' run amok.

Your response didn't make sense. These women want free abortions. Of course, women who don't believe in them won't have one. What I'm saying is if you want one, get it, but don't expect others to pay for it.

Yes, flying a Confederate flag is free speech. That hasn't stopped people from having their personal property vandalized by those who disagree with them. That is the problem. If a person will get physically attacked for expressing themselves, isn't that a threat to free speech?

Trump is blacking out the media. He choose not to help the fake news push their propaganda. He isn't stopping the media, just ignoring certain ones, which is fair. CNN will continue with their lies but don't have a right to access anyone they want.

Wait as minute. Are you talking about America, or North Korea?

A point of debate which took an invasion of the North against the South to resolve.

the idea that women want free abortions is ridiculous. very few are that radical & the government doesn't pay for them either- not since the days of carter. absolutely it is wrong to have personal property vandalized. i wouldn't say anything different. lol... you just revealed that you welcome alternative facts & i will view you accordingly from now on.

you: 'Trump is blacking out the media. He choose not to help the fake news push their propaganda. He isn't stopping the media, just ignoring certain ones, which is fair. CNN will continue with their lies but don't have a right to access anyone they want.'

fascism tenet # 6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

It is not an invasion when an army maneuvers and travels within its own territory. The country was the United States, and the U.S. Army moved within the United States to deal with a rebellion.

One of the first things I learned in studying history was not to apply 20th Century ideas and mores to 18th or 19th Century people.

You are smart enough to know that history books are written by the winners. Your attitude on the Civil War is dictated by a post-Civil War perception. If you read about it from a pre-Civil War perspective, then it becomes a lot clearer that "one nation" doesn't exist as we think today. People put their states first and that small Federal government in Washington, D.C. was a distant entity which dealt with England and the Barbary pirates with little to no effect on the general population.

Noted Civil War historian Shelby Foote once put it this way:

Before the war, it was said “the United States are.” Grammatically, it was spoken that way and thought of as a collection of independent states. And after the war, it was always “the United States is,” as we say to day without being self-conscious at all. And that’s sums up what the war accomplished. It made us an “is.”

As Foote noted, the Civil War changed how we thought of states and the Federal US. That was post-war, not pre-war. Robert E. Lee, a West Point graduate and experienced US Army officer, didn't agree with the idea of secession, but when it happened, felt compelled to defend his "country". His "country" being Virginia because that how Americans thought; their state was their country. Some of the older farts like myself on this forum remember as late as the 1960s and 1970s that people often put their state ahead of the Federal government.

Putting aside the insult to my intelligence (unmerited, as far as I can see), and to return to my subject in the cited post, most of the 'Founders' were erudite people, often well versed in more than one language. They understood English. Even if punctuation has evolved somewhat, the language has not changed, on any important scale, in meaning. Nouns, adjectives, tenses of verbs are the same. They had to understand that the "more perfect Union" they were developing was the extension of the Perpetual Union of origin. It had been said and did not need elaboration. It would not even have occurred to them that their could be a misunderstanding. This has nothing to do viewing the past through modern eyes.

What insult? Bringing up Foote? Pointing out 200+ years of cultural differences and growth?

Disagreed about "This has nothing to do viewing the past through modern eyes". Anyone who truly wants to understand the past must also appreciate their view, regardless if we agree with that view or not from our 21st Century perch.

It about 100 years ago that Suffragettes were beaten on the streets of Washington DC and imprisoned by President Wilson for doing what the Americans in the OP did on Inauguration Day. While we don't have to agree with the actions of President Wilson, but in order to understand those times, it's important to understand the viewpoints of all concerned.
