How do you come to that conclusion?
It's a lie because it's based on a misinterpretation of human nature, that people will work hard without personal benefit. But we all know its just a way of getting control.
Human nature is very flexible and cooperation preceded competition. Socialism is about cooperation to ensure that everyone benefits. So it too is driven by self-interest.
The socialist mantra" To each according to need, from each according to ability", relies on a totalitarian hegemonic entity to make all these decisions for everyone's life.
I think that's from Marx, from memory and socialism is much more complex than a one-liner but at the heart of it is the idea that the means of production and distribution should be socially owned and not owned by individuals. Hardly a threat to the world as we know it. No doubt about the failure of command planning in an economy though, there's a need for market forces there for sure. That's why socialist theory adapted itself and isn't locked into the utopian ideas of its origins.
