Martin's only "mistake" is he got killed and couldn't testify.
Zimmerman's pattern is pretty clear. He's gamed the system many times.

If his next girlfriend smacks him to get him away from her, is he allowed to pull out a gun and blow her away too? How many times does he provoke unarmed people into a confrontation, then get to shoot them when they fight back?

Murder has to be proven. In the Martin case, they were unable to make the charges stick because they never had any proof.
This case, maybe they'll be able to prove their charges.
