Senate Dems, Led by Feinstein, Introduce Assault Weapons Ban

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) and a long list of her Democratic colleagues introduced the Assault Weapons Ban of 2017 on Wednesday.

The bill would ban "the sale, transfer, manufacture, and importation of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines," according to a press release from Feinstein's office.

"We're introducing an updated Assault Weapons Ban for one reason: so that after every mass shooting with a military-style assault weapon, the American people will know that a tool to reduce these massacres is sitting in the Senate, ready for debate and a vote," Feinstein said in a statement.

Feinstein, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, conceded that "this bill won't stop every mass shooting," but said "it will begin removing these weapons of war from our streets."

The bill states that "owners may keep existing weapons and magazines" but bans the sale of "205 military-style assault weapons by name," the press release noted.

Senate Dems, Led by Feinstein, Introduce Assault Weapons Ban

Time for the movie folks.

More phony boloney by the Democrat showmen. Uh, Senator, didn't we have an assault weapons ban in the past that produced no results? Where in the US Constitution does it say all bills originate in the Senate?

Trying to get an assault weapons ban in place with a Republican Congress and Senate is like the Republicans trying to increase abortion regulations with a Dem House and Senate. Clearly this is nothing more than a dog and pony show pandering to their constituents and getting nothing done at the same time.

I am confused. Why did you say that?

Say what?

The red text in the quote. I wonder why you said that.

Ok, okay, according to the article, she's the one that introduced it. She's a Senator.

I am still not getting why you think that is important. Senators can introduce this type of legislation. Did you think she could not?

Abortion has been legal for 40 years
Massacres have never been legal...why do you insist on helping them obtain their weapons of choice?

Oh, you don't like that idea? Well then how about they read the names of all the politicians that voted against Kate's law when an illegal kills yet another American citizen? Does that suit you better?

Let's do it

Put Kate's Law up for a vote and we put the Anti-assault weapon bill up for a vote

We did put up Kate's law to a vote. The Senate Democrats voted it down. They didn't want severe penalties against illegals who were deported, come back, and commit more crimes. Democrats are fine with that.
OK...our turn

Now, let's put the Assault Rifle ban up for a vote

She could, but bills are supposed to originate in Congress and spending bills are exclusive to Congress. I didn't think it was that important; just something to throw out there.

So, a bad gun law is going to go nowhere. Your outrage seems rather impotent, kind of like the people trying to pass the gun ban. Yawn. Whatever floats your boat, I suppose...

I don't think I expressed "outrage" about it. Just pointing out what actors Democrat politicians are in light of a tragedy.

Fair enough, I suppose. But It was a looong post (indictment) for something most people that actually pay attention know won't go anywhere. A bit of a strawman, IMHO. And most of our current politicians are actors - doesn't really matter if there is a "D" or an "R" in front of their names. I'm assuming you already know that.

I just think that instead of wasting time on this, they should shift their attention to more important matters like tax and healthcare reform instead of voting anything from an R down.

Wow! I agree with you! Such an easy thing, yet seemingly so, so hard these days.

Why would they care if an assault weapons ban wouldn't have changed anything? The clown that attacked the church was not allowed to have a weapon of any kind. It was an assault weapon that stopped him and made him run away from the church at least saving a few lives anyway.

Ray, you are embarrassing the shit out of yourself. That's what I was afraid was happening. You didn't know that the Senate is a part of Congress?

There are two houses of Congress.: the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Spending bills must originate in the House.

I think you need to take an hour or two and review your Constitution.

No, it was not an assault weapon. Stop using liberal disinformation. This ban on assault weapons bans no assault weapons despite what the libs claim.

Outside of the military, probably less than 1/10000th of 1% of Americans have ever fired an assault weapon.

The guns used in Orlando and Vegas sure were mass killing weapons.

I think you missed the point.

An assault rifle is, by definition, a selective-fire weapon. It has the ability to shoot semi-auto and full-auto, or three-round bursts/auto, or some combination. Normal citizens cannot own an assault rifle built after 1986. This is a ban on civilian firearms.

May ordinary things can cause mass murder. The real issue is that communists MUST confiscate all guns in order to end capitalism. That is the real objective, even though every fucking commie on Earth is instructed to lie and deny that real objective so they don't have to keep changing their name from communist to liberal to progressive to socialist, etc" over and over.

Only repeal is acceptible. No gun control is acceptible, I don't care how many people get mowed down by leftist bigots.

The point is people shouldn't have weapons for mass killing. You can talk crazy all you want, but normal people don't like innocent people dying regularly.

I"m using liberal definition of assault weapon just like Feinstein. The neighbor had some form of an AR weapon that he shot the clown with.
