Should Detroit's municipal retirees lose their pensions?

Detroit appears to be unique. What other large city is 90% black.? It's the blackness that causes a return to the stone age. That's why all of africa is that way.

Do us all a favor and before you type just slap yourself cause chances are you going to post something fucking ignorant.

The board notes you evaded the issue and made a childish personal attack. Thanks for admitting i'm right.

Okay, I'll return (thanks but really, the applause isn't necessary) to say all SS and Medicare and yes, probably all pensions, will soon have to be means-tested. I know half a dozen millionaires taking SS payments and maintaining their aging husks on Sam's dime. That's bullshit. Set an amount that a person is NETTING after taxes and make it a threshold for receiving benefits. If the retiree should fall under the that mark any given year, then the benefits are restored for that year. Don't wail about the "fairness" of this to me....I don't give a shit who likes it or doesn't....it's the only way these programs can stay solvent given the Fortune 500 has abandoned us to hire the yellow man to do what used to be our jobs while we're left to sell each other insurance and cheeseburgers....only in America eh?

So basically turn SS into another tax instead of a retirement program.

If people paid into it, they should get money out of it. Anything else is another money grab by envious hucksters such as yourself, always looking for someone else to pay for thier stuff.

You're 25? You don't know shit about anything....I was 25 once....and although I was quite a bit smarter than you are, I didn't know shit about anything either....you're gonna have to grow into a smart person....you got a long way to go, kid. But yeah, it's INSURANCE for your geezerdom...you don't need it, you don't get it. Pretty simple eh? :eusa_eh:

Im 38. and if they dont get it, they shouldnt have to pay into it.

I actually plan on working into my 70's.

Work 35 years and have your pension pulled

Republican version of the American Dream

Work 35 years and find out the politicians and Union spent your pension on bullshit... Politicians and Unions that happen to be Democrats....

Yes RW, blame Republicans for something Democrats and Unions all on their own cased, I mean, it's what you do all the times.

We are young enough to know SS is a wash.....We are not yanking 70 year old people off of it now though are we???? Any fix or even dissolving of SS would never effect those on it right now. Why? Cause we gave our word to them. The same needs to happen to those on their pension now. Those not retired or has only been retired for 5 years or less should prepare for their world to change drastically. No I dont think the fed should bail them out....I do think the state needs to man up. I also think that all that can be sold in Detroit should be sold. the game is over.

I never gave my word to anybody. Some dead politican gave thier word to them.

Are you truly this selfishly stupid? Who do you think gave the politician the power to make that deal????? It sure as fuck wasn't Santa.

I dont live in the detroit area, never have. Yet the only way out of this without lowering pensions is a federal bailout. At that point you are asking ME to pay for some deal i never agreed to, because i never voted for anyone who agreed to it.

Taxation, no representation.

If the point was your a racist ignorant fuck then yes. We all know race was a huge factor for who was elected in Detroit. We also know many mayors were and are racists like you. Yet it isnt the ONLY factor in its downfall. Thus the reason I ask you slap yourself for your ignorant posts.

And thus your ultimate ignorance is shown.......Do you think this will stay in Michigan? Hey shit has hit the fan and you dont have magic powers to not get splattered.

By paying off this one federally, we basically open it up to all federally.

Let detroit figure it out, they got themselves into this mess. Let the other localities figure it out themselves as well.

People always get hurt no matter what happens. The hurt should be limited to the area that caused it.

Nut up, or shut up.

you act as if Detroit is a isolated incident..... it is the harbinger of things to come. How the state deals with this will tell us how to deal with Chicago and LA and San Fransisco and Atlanta and Miami and New York City and on and on. This isn't a gotcha moment boy this is the beginning of the true depression. Real things have to happen now.

I told Carbine this exact same thing. Don't act like I don't think this will happen again. California is a shining example of what is happening on a state level as compared to a city. When a state goes bankrupt, more will follow. This is but the first domino of many to fall.

I am under no illusion that those retired wont get screwed cause we all know they already were the moment they took the job. In Detroit the only half ass good job was a city job. Its like we punish those for drinking out of the only watering hole in a dessert. I just hope the state after they sell all that can be sold in Detroit can lessen the pain as much as possible....No before you get all puffed up I am dead set against a federal intervention because it wont help it will just make it worse.

Yep, while I been turning asses red here, I don't think a federal "bailout" is necessary either....kinda fun to watch these boys leaping around and yelling about "*******" and "communists" instead of who did this to Detroit. All they need is TIME to get their financial house in order. Sell land, bulldoze the abandoned buildings, put in new streetlights, increase the police presence, and give anybody who hasn't paid their property taxes a choice of pay or lose it. Guys like Mike Ilitch (owns the Tigers and Red Wings) have invested million$ on a bet the city can rebound. And it can.....but it all swings on the JOBS coming back....without that you may as well wall the city off and let the gangs sort it out.

There are other ways out. Detroit could greatly reduce it's welfare system. That's not money that was promised to the recipients. Just a bunch of lazy blacks mooching off the white man.

LOL. an animation from Taiwan. I merely thought it had humourous potential. Sorry.

But just a thought, if the feds pick up a portion of the employee liability, doesn't that sort of set a precedent, like when the feds bailed out private pensions, and we got the monster being URISA? The feds could be in the position of mandating the % of revenue collected as a % of current retiree benefits and outstanding liabilities. I dunno. I'm sorry for the guys in Mich. But, I don't think I want the feds in this.

You didn't pay into anything. SS is already a tax with the proceeds immediately spent on someone else. It's no different than any other tax expenditure, regardless of what lies the politicians are spending.

But here's the thing: your money is already gone, spent, pissed away by the people sent to DC. The only way to get the money you were taxed (or as so many incorrectly term it "pay into the system") is to take it from someone else. That's the only way.

You or your grandchildren will have to be burdened by not getting anything back from a system that is no longer sustainable (if it ever was). Which will it be?

It will stay in areas that have gone socialist. Meaning black or hispanic. All those groups want is to live off the white man.

Well, you said 40 years until retirement so you're going to work until you're almost 80? You might want to wait until you're 60 before you plan on that. Your age group is stuck in the sucker hole on this....we Boomers are very health conscious are going to live a long time.....on your tab. It's the compact made between generations...it would be a shame if it wasn't there for you, which is why I'm saying what I'm saying about means-testing. If we do that, you'll see something....might not be much, but hey, I'm getting a tiny portion of what I paid in too.....it is what it is....Life ain't fair, but it's fairly fun if you don't take it too seriously. :eusa_angel:

I need you to go find where I said federal bailout was needed?????Please do that and I fully expect you to apologize for lying about what I posted.

So who gets to pay for those pensions? Detroit is broke, the tax base can't support the city now, much less any additional costs or taxes. Detroit made the promises to the workers, not Michigan or the other 49 states. But since cutting the pensions is off the table (something that routinely happens when private companies file for bankruptcy but something that should never happen to a public entity for some reason), who gets to pay and how?

And the people we should take the money from is those on welfare. No promise was made to them. Why do we continue to hand out a trillion $s a year to lazy blacks and then tell retirees your SS money is gone???

It is a state issue

We already told you. Eliminate all the EBT and SNAP and medicaid and section 8 crap. Those welfare queens were never promised the money like the retirees were.
