Since when does the Catholic Church have the right to force their religious values...

...on their non Catholic employees?

Churches are exempt from the ruling.

However, religious institutions that employ and serve people outside their faith -- hospitals, elementary schools, universities -- have to comply with the requirement to cover birth control if they offer health insurance coverage for employees. That means such Catholic institutions, which employ and serve wide swaths of non-Catholics across the country, will not be exempt, despite church teachings against use of contraception.

Obama Administration's New Contraception Rule Puts Key Catholic Vote at Risk

What gives the Catholic church (or any church, for that matter) the right to force their religious convictions on employees who aren't even catholic?

separation of church & state goes both ways. What right does the Government have to compel the Church to do something against its own moral teachings?

Indeed. See the First Amendment.

Who the fuck cares if you are against the mandate?

This is not discrimination, no matter how badly you want it to be...

You're right - you're a broken record...

You want preferential treatment, not equal treatment.

No matter how many times I say this, it doesn't sink in.

That's because you're wrong.

Nope Catholics want preferential treatment from federal guidelines that operate institutions in the private sector.

This whole thread is about Catholics and their yearning for preferential treatment.

Sorry, you are not special simply because you run a organization in the private sector.

actually it isn't. These hospitals are not private sector, they are charities, most likely non-profits. They are affiliated with the Catholic Church & utilize the values set down by the Church. They are now being compelled to do things that violate their own tenants of belief by the Government. According to the actual wording of the Constitution, this is forbidden....

Catholics just want to practice their religion freely......Obama is trying to fence them in.....

Actually, what we want is for the Government to honor the promise it made to the Church. They want insurance companies to be allowed to offer policies that do not cover contraception. Choice. That's what the left are all supportive of, is it not? We want choice. Just like you have. We have a right to choose too. Unless it is "Freedom for me, but not for thee"... which does seem to be the liberal mantra.

To the left...the Constitution is a "living, breathing document..."

Fine...

So the question is? If that is so? Why does it only swing one way (thiers), and cannot ever go the opposite?

Just like all the unions that got waivers
:eusa_whistle:

Gov't by dictate- is so progressive

Actually, Catholics are only the example, religion in general

this not as an issue about birth control or even abortion
but as an issue of religious liberty and the nature of our nation.

Yawn....you people are getting old in trying to say that I support Obamacare. Your desperation is showing.

Unions should not be excused from this mandate, but don't they already meet the requirements, or no?

I did not say that
I really don't care if you support PapaObama care or not....

the big picture

The editorial pages of the Washington Post and USA Today are hardly tools of the right
they have posted against it

It is a losing issue for Papa Obama
it will change

before the election
how, we can only guess

Obama and Sebilius are going to rue the day they expeditied this portion of Ocare (that wasn't to take effect until 2013...after the elections)...so early.

The O may not recover from this.

What if the Catholic Church suddenly decides that their faith opposes the minimum wage?

Do they automatically become exempt from paying it?

Suddenly the most anti-choice institution in America wants to play the choice card.

what if you suddenly weren't a bozo?

would you automatically give back the shoes?

What irony.

The men in the Catholic church don't want contraceptives to be provided, but they never have to worry about pregnancy.

Someone should tell these guys that women, even CATHOLIC women, USE birth control.

Unlike others, we hold people to their commitments. Your asshole in the Oval made the promise, he will deliver it. End of.
