Are Republicans and other self-professed Conservatives in America now PRO-TARIFFS?!??

Trump supporters certainly are.

"It's different when we do it".
it's not about the tariff at all. It's about american jobs. so you are against working americans?
Nonsense.

It's about the inconsistent blind partisan right supporting a Republican president whose trade policies conflict with fundamental conservative economic dogma.

The ignorance of what tariffs were used for and how they were used to protect American workers from having to compete with slave labor and how Woodrow Wilson killed that system and signed the 16th amendment to compensate for lost tax revenue utterly astounds me. This trade imbalance and all these unfair "Free Trade" agreements have been put in by the very same oligarchs that run all central banks.

NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, et al have been used to crush the middle class. Leftards want a two class system just like the old days of serfdom...the elites and the underclass with nothing in the middle while preaching "socialism" and communism. Leftards have earned the reputation of being totally ignorant about how this debt slavery system of control actually works. I just have to shake my head at their utter ignorance and stupidity that they seem proud of.

Quit blaming NAFTA for shit it never did.

Eat shit and die, you ignorant fuck. I know EXACTLY what it is I am talking about. You are utterly clueless as well as stupid and will remain that way. I simply can't muster up any feelings of pity for the terminally stupid....such as yourself.

/—-/ That makes no sense. We want zero tariffs and Trump is the first President working towards it.

Yep. Corporatist welfare. Have Republicans given up on all their values in their quest to appease Mad King Donald - or have they just forgotten?
/——-/ Libtards still haven’t given their solution, maybe because they are OK with America being raped by China.

Probably. But this isn't the only issue where Trumpsters favor big government. They've pretty much given up on conservative inconveniences like limited government or free markets. It's all about nationalism with these goons.
/——/ We haven’t given up on anything. That’s just you lashing out.

Lashing? Does 'lashing' mean pointing out blatant hypocrisy?
/——/ What hypocrisy?

Where do I start? Pertaining to this thread, is the "about face" conservatives have done on the role of government in the economy. They lose all respect for the free market when it doesn't support their nationalistic goals.

Beyond that, I've been watching - over and over again on this board - Trumpsters arguing for policies and approaches that conservatives have traditionally opposed. They want government regulation to "reign in" corporations who don't support Trump (Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, etc..). They talk about nationalizing them as though it's a reasonable thing. They're embracing social engineering and are eager to use government to force their values on others - just like their Democrat cousins.

To be fair, Democrats and liberals are doing the same hypocrisy dance. You see them defending the rights of businesses to discriminate (when those businesses are discriminating against people they disagree with). Suddenly they care about individual rights and the sanctity of self-ownership, when it comes to abortion.

All in all, it's the same phony shit I've been watching for decades. Republicans have no consistent principles. They just want the power to force their preferences on others. Just like the Democrats.

For years, nay...DECADES, we've been told by self-professed conservatives and American Republicans that tariffs are defacto taxes and therefore are verboten.

Now that Trump has been levying tariffs left and right, seems that the American self-professed conservatives are all for it.

So is that old and historical trope now only good for the garbage bin?

Are Republicans and other self-professed Conservatives in America now PRO-TARIFFS?!??

I’m still good with them.

In total 11 said yes, only 3 said no.

  • All three liberals who voted said yes

Read this and tell me your solution to meet them half way: China’s Taxes on Imported Cars Feed Trade Tensions With U.S.
A Jeep Wrangler can cost $30,000 more in China than in the United States — and the reasons illustrate a growing point of tension between the two countries.

Manufactured in Toledo, Ohio, the Wrangler is a descendant of the jeeps that were used by American forces in World War II. Equipped with a 3.6-liter engine and a five-speed automatic transmission, the Rubicon edition of the Wrangler has a suggested retail price of $40,530 in the United States.

But in China, the same vehicle would set a buyer back by a hefty $71,000, mostly because of taxes that Beijing charges on every car, minivan and sport utility vehicle that is made in another country and brought to China’s shores.

My point was if you can't make a deal that is good for both countries then China and probably trump will never make a deal

No, I'm reacting to the threads started and populated by Trump supporters.

There are elements conservatism that I agree with: Constitutionally limited government, support for free markets, opposition to socialism and the welfare state. But Trump is mostly abandoning those values in favor of the aspects of conservatism that I can't support: nationalism, xenophobia, religious fundamentalism, and general enthusiasm for the authoritarian state.
