So hours after the Amtrak crash, republicans cut the budget for it

So how is throwing money at Amtrak going to prevent a train conductor from driving the train at twice the speed limit?

Some trains have computer controls to prevent over speed. That one didn't because they can't afford to do those upgraded on all the trains.
Then they shouldn't be in business.

funny post Billy , accident was caused by excesive speed , news been on the telly the last few hours !!

Ya...and what caused the higher speed? Could have been a mechanical problem..AKA maintenance. We don't know ... and probably won't for several months ...maybe years but the transportation folks are pretty good reverse engineers and will eventually figure it out.

It's unlikely the engineer didn't know the risks of approaching the curve at 56 MPH over the legal limit. Unless he was suicidal there was probably nothing he could do to slow the train down to a safer speed.
Hell, it could have even been sabotage. After all, 1 single vandal can derail a train if they know what they are doing simply by removing a section of track.

We just don't know what caused it yet. At this point it's all speculation.

Great idea. You feel the same way about all the money we throw at oil companies?

Government shouldn't be throwing money at any business.

Just to spit in the face of the people that died as it tells them that the republicans don't give two shits.

So you think the best place to start cutting is on infrastructure that effects the safety of thousands every day. You might want to think that through a little more.

They would be able to afford PTC in more areas, instead of just a few:

The stretch of track where the train derailed was not equipped with an automated speed control system called positive train control, NTSB board member Sumwalt said.

He told reporters: "We feel that had such a system been installed in this section of track, this accident would not have occurred."

Another factor that can't be discounted is where the crash happened.

"It's an extremely heavily used stretch of track," transportation analyst Matthew L. Wald said of the area. "They have trouble keeping it in a state of good repair."

So how is throwing money at Amtrak going to prevent a train conductor from driving the train at twice the speed limit?
Nothing. But fixing the congestion would make his recklessness less dangerous.
And how is throwing money going to "fix the congestion"?
In addition to speed control systems, extra funding would allow more tracks to be built. I don't understand how you people don't understand our infrastructure system. Obviously it requires throwing money at it to improve it. How else would it fucking happen?

They don't understand anything fox or rush doesn't explain to them. All they care about is cut, slash and burn.

That's not what I said and you know it. Can't you debate honestly or do you have to rely on misrepresenting your opponent's position? Never mind, I already know the answer.

If the rail industry can't afford to do those things without taxpayer money they should not be in business. Why should the taxpayers have to suffer to keep a dying industry alive?

Same old stupid answer. You don't know what you're talking about, you never do. You're a robot.

Ah, republicans. You can always rely on their revenue gouging policies for aiding the rich, but what really makes them scumbags is that they refuse to do anything about our failing infrastructure system.
That was the problem, the speeding train didn't have enough tax money to slow down.

What?

Fixing the congestion would make his recklessness less dangerous.....

I had to read this a couple of times....

Maybe we start with him being reckless as the problem not the congestion.

Wow, for someone who says that we can't know the particulars you sure do a lot of assuming to try and make a partisan point.

Typically, Amtrak derailments are the result of disrepair of the privately owned (scantly regulated) tracks that they rely on.

Unfortunately, for your wide ass assumption, the articles I read said the track were just recently inspected and the tracks are in one of the most used rail corridor in the country.
