So You Hate Socialism.......

Geez, another genius......FYI....we the people are the government. Of course we elect people and they do it for us, but we don't write out checks directly to the various things the government pays for.......the government is the one that does that. Quit trying to use semantics to twist what I said.

Of course WE are the government, through our elected representatives. But that doesn't mean government gets to redefine the authority it has as enumerated in the Constitution. We have a specific process for that... it's called "amending the Constitution." Yes, everything the government pays for comes out of our pocket or has to be borrowed from foreign investors like China. The government itself doesn't earn any money.

We are currently running a yearly deficit of a billion plus... our cumulative national debt is nearly $19 trillion. The amount we have dedicated through yet-to-be-claimed liabilities is approaching $200 trillion. Most normal persons cannot wrap their minds around the amount of money that is. And we have two Democrat Socialist seeking the presidency by seeing which one can offer more spending and taxing than the other.

So we hear so many Americans claim they hate socialism and don't think Bernie Sanders would have a chance to win if he were selected as the Democratic candidate. I wonder how many truly understand socialism and are even enjoying socialism without even realizing it.

The one that really surprises me is the military......conservatives claim they love the military and don't mind the bulk of our tax-payer money going toward maintaining it....the military, it's the closest to socialism of the many programs we support.

Socialism.

There is nothing more feared and hated in America.

The word alone sends shivers down the spine of the American people.

Those three syllables conger up images of Big Brother Government ruling over us all, telling us what to eat, wear, buy, and think. Our children in national uniform being indoctrinated with propaganda in government education camps that use to be schools, turning them into little slaves. While their parents work twelve hour shifts in the concentration camp that slaughters rich successful billionaires, as the poor and needy get a million dollars a month in welfare. A murderous government waging a war against freedom and liberty to gain complete control over everyone and everything.

They imagine the USSR and how Democrats are turning America into it because our government will give money to poor people so they don't starve to death. (Giving money to billion dollar corporations is NOT socialism somehow. You would be a communist and a hippie to think otherwise.)

This is scary stuff!

And it's about to get scarier, because I have some terrifying news for you....

Socialism is alive and well in America and it has been here for a very long time!

Oh, that's not all. it gets much worse! I hope your sitting down...

As it turns out, You love socialism and you use it everyday, and you may not even know it! It may have even saved your life. I know, this is bad...

1. The Military/Defense - The United States military is the largest and most funded socialist program in the world. It operates thanks to our taxpayer dollars and protects the country as a whole. From the richest citizens to the homeless who sleep under the bridge. We are all protected by our military whether we pay taxes or not. This is complete socialism.

2. Highways/Roads - Those roads and highways you drive on every single day are completely taxpayer funded. Your tax dollars are used to maintain, expand, and preserve our highways and roads for every one's use. President Eisenhower was inspired by Germany's autobahn and implemented the idea right here in America. That's right, a republican president created our taxpayer funded, national highway system. This was a different time, before the republican party came down with a vicious case of rabies that never went away.

3. Public Libraries - Yes. That place where you go to check out books from conservative authors telling you how horrible socialism is, is in fact socialism. Libraries are taxpayer funded. You pay a few bucks to get a library card and you can read books for free for the rest of your life.

4. Police - Ever had a situation where you had to call the police? Then you have used a taxpayer funded socialist program. Anyone can call the police whether they pay taxes or not. They are there to protect and serve the community, not individuals. This is complete socialism on a state level, but still socialism all the same. Would you rather have to swipe your credit card before the police will help you?

5. Fire Dept. - Hopefully you have never had a fire in your home. But if you have, you probably called your local taxpayer-funded fire department to put the fire out. Like police, this is state socialism. You tax dollars are used to rescue your entire community in case of a fire. It use to be set up where you would pay a fee every month to the fire dept. for their service. If you didn't pay, they let your house burn down. Sadly, a man from Tennessee had this exact situation happen to him in 2011 because he didn't pay his $75.00 fee. I guess that small town in Tennessee would rather let people's houses burn down that resort to evil socialism. So don't take for granted the fact that you have a 24/7 fire dept. to put out your burning home thanks to socialism.

6. Postal Service - Like having mail delivered directly to your front door and paying next to nothing to send mail anywhere you want? Well it's all made possible by socialism.

7. Student Loans and Grants - Did you go to College? If you did, you family might not have been rich enough to pay your way through. So you got your education anyway through student loans and grants from the federal government at taxpayer expense. Of course you have to pay back the loans, but if not the government, did you know anyone else who was going to lend you tens of thousands of dollars? Probably not. So the taxpayers lent you the money and you paid it back with slight interest. The government grants you accepted were gifts from the taxpayer and the federal government that you did not have to pay back. Socialism got you through school.

75 Ways Socialism Has Improved America
1) It's about time those not paying the taxes that fund the military get to paying their fair share.

2) The majority of those taxes are paid through fuel taxes. If you don't use the road, you don't use the fuel.

3) There is no cost for a library card where I live. Local property taxes are the primary funding for the libraries here. If you don't own property on which to pay those taxes, I seriously doubt you're using the libraries funded by them.

4) I have. Since I pay the taxes that fund them, I'm getting what I paid for.

5) FD's are funded by local property taxes. If you don't have property to protect from fire, the fire dept. doesn't need to come to put out what you don't own.

6) Hate to break it to you but the postal service hasn't received direct taxpayer funding in almost 35 years.

7) My entire college funding was through academic and athletic scholarships. They were EARNED. My daughter is in college now and what academic scholarships, all privately funded and awarded, don't pay I pay out of pockets.

Just a note on your property tax comment

You do know that if you rent a portion of that rent goes to pay the property taxes on the place you live don't you?

And we have two Democrat Socialist seeking the presidency by seeing which one can offer more spending and taxing than the other.

The debt is a cumulative amount from decades past, something a nation can do as long as it remains stable and can pay creditors when necessary. The Henny Penny fearmongers have been brainwashed to believe the massive debt is the harbinger for financial collapse.

It is not. The reason the don't tax and spend GOP has brought this issue up now is because they want the seat in the oval office for the perks then made available to the party. It has nothing to do with their ability to govern fiscally responsibly, for we've seen the deficits of Reagan and Bush II and how the issue was silent during their reign.

If the Congress wants to prosecute war, they need to stand up and pass a bond issue to pay for it, not spend a trillion dollars and more on a war of choice not budgeted. Under Obama the cost of military action and the treatment of wounded vets is on budget and transparent - and still the deficit has been cut during his tenure in office.

Wrong. Like always!
Conservatives have always brought up overspending and we pay a MASSIVE amount on interest alone. You dipsticks think a country can spend its' way into prosperity. The country did great under Reagan and Bush, until all the bullshit overspending/speculating/playing games with money collapsed the market. WE should be rolling along way before now but the economy STILL sucks because too many think what got us into trouble is the way forward.

I never said it did. But, like an accountant, it pays the bills, so when I say the government pays for it, I don't mean that the government is like a person...that earns money and pays for things, and you know that...so quit with the semantics.

A large portion of that is due to the worthless wars the Republican President started. Funny how all of a sudden conservatives are so concerned with the debt, but when Bush was not even budgeting for the war none of the conservatives complained about all the money being spent. Trump is promising all kinds of things....do you think that he is going to pay for it with his own money?

We are the government, you said so yourself, so WE are paying for it. Problem is, WE don't collectively have enough money to pay for it so WE borrow it from China. WE are currently running a $20 trillion bar tab. Meanwhile, you just keep dreaming up more stupid shit to blow money on!

Why? Well that'd be found in your next quote....

So... because you are all butt-hurt that George W. Bush invaded your buddy Saddam Hussein, it's a good reason to ignore the national debt and continue to pile on stupid shit for everyone to pay for? You're kind of like the angry wife who catches her husband cheating and runs up all his credit cards and then burns the house down.

Except that Bush acted with the consent of Congress to enforce UN resolutions with a coalition of willing nations to try and combat threats to our nation from radical Islamic terrorists. You turned it into Vietnam II and ruined his reputation... now you're spending our nation into bankruptcy because you are still mad about it. This has to STOP!

The debt is a cumulative amount from decades past, something a nation can do as long as it remains stable and can pay creditors when necessary. The Henny Penny fearmongers have been brainwashed to believe the massive debt is the harbinger for financial collapse.

Understood, but our #1 expenditure every year is the interest on our debt. Maintaining such a massive debt is doable but it can't be done while we continue to amass more debt like we don't already have any. We're $20 trillion in debt now and we're continuing to add about $1 trillion more per year... you don't see the problem with that? It's not fear-mongering, it's basic common sense economics.

We now have Democrats seriously proposing "Free Education" as if that's no problem for us to fund! Bernie Sanders proposals will cost us another $20 trillion! And the liberals cheer him on! Do you not understand what you're doing? Or do you understand and just not give two shits?

Liberals don't live in reality, never have and never will.

Of course not. They believe government can give us free stuff. Some of them might grasp the concept that someone has to pay for the stuff but it's not them so it doesn't matter... they still think government ought to dole out the free stuff.

And here is the thing... Any resource has to either be sold or rationed. There is no other option. So whenever the resource is turned over to government to distribute it will have to be rationed. We're already seeing it being applied to health care, now they want to apply it to higher education.

These people are a danger to themselves and society in general. They obviously flunked world history and have no idea about Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot or how over 200 million people have died trying to implement the very system they advocate. And you can't even talk to them about it... they shut you out because they've been brainwashed by others.

I think it comes from their time spent in infancy. Everything was provided, security was a given, the parents cared for them and nurtured their well being. I think they see the government in the same light so to me they are adults that either can't or won't grow up. Why leave a good thing?

Sorry to break it to you, but paying local, state or federal taxes and receiving community services is democratic socialism... I think you don't understand what democratic socialism is.

Probably should have EARNED a better scholarship...

PS Why should you get an athletic scholarship to an academic institution. Why don't you first understand what public education outside the US looks like before you make up your mind.

I will give a short explanation:
I will explain Ireland(I will simplify a bit) but Europe has this in one form or another. At 17/18 kids do a state exams with 6 subjects counting (Maths, English, Foreign Language must count). Each score is given points (100 A, 80 B...).

Six Months before the exams they fill a form of the top 20 courses they would like to do in other of preference.

The exam results come out and the kid gets his results which is then turned into points... Anything above 500 is considered quite good, straight A students are rare with less than a dozen in the country.

The courses are then given on supply and demand. So if everyone applies for law in Dublin (UCD) and there is 50 places, they first 50(highest) are selected and the rest have to go to there next choice on the list...

So three days after your exams the national newspapers publish the points needed for a course and the individual number of every student with the course they are being offered right beside them. Very transparent and very little mistakes.

The government pays all course fees but subsistence is means tested..

Sorry to break it to you, but paying local, state or federal taxes and receiving community services is democratic socialism... I think you don't understand what democratic socialism is.

The government pays all course fees but subsistence is means tested.
Depends on the service, fixing pot holes is a service but not socialism. EBT cards are and needs to be reigned in. We need less not more.

And government doesn't pay for shit. They have no money they didn't take.

Liberals don't live in reality, never have and never will.

Of course not. They believe government can give us free stuff. Some of them might grasp the concept that someone has to pay for the stuff but it's not them so it doesn't matter... they still think government ought to dole out the free stuff.

We always miss the subtleties of the truth when we start assigning beliefs to others. But at the risk of doing just that, I'd say that not all liberals are so unsophisticated. Many of them recognize the contradiction of "free stuff". And they, more accurately, see socialism as a means of taking economic power out of private hands - where it is distributed via voluntary exchange - and putting it under the control of democratic government. They believe government will make better decisions about how to invest our wealth than individuals.

And they only reason they think that is because they are dependent minded, needy and naive. Government takes care of numero uno first. Government. Trickle down government hurts the economy because it is the individuals that actually do the work to create the wealth in the first place. The bigger the ball and chain on their ankle the less motivated they are. It's the kind of things most of us learn as kids.

Correct me if I've misunderstood you but how does that system take supply and demand into account? If kids want to study a topic but are told they can't then how is supply and demand in play there?

Depends on the service, fixing pot holes is a service but not socialism. EBT cards are and needs to be reigned in. We need less not more.

And government doesn't pay for shit. They have no money they didn't take.

Fixing Potholes is Socialism... It is the essence of socialism...

The road is socially owned (i.e. it is owned by the community) and is socially maintained. Every so many years the community vote for a representative who makes a decision to fix potholes or not.. If he does it then he does it for the social good or he lets the road go because the road is no longer needed to kept at this level for society...

That is Socialism and that is the point of this discussion. The people who vilify socialism actually believe in a certain amount of socialism themselves...

So you issue is that you believe socialism is good for America but believe in certain areas we could have less of it(and in some places more)...

So the question is for you what should be the entry requirements for an EBT card and how do you see this being controlled?

1) It's about time those not paying the taxes that fund the military get to paying their fair share.

2) The majority of those taxes are paid through fuel taxes. If you don't use the road, you don't use the fuel.

There say 50 places on a course... That is the supply... But for that year that college has 50 places...

The students who want it applym, that is the demand...

The students with the highest points (and do not have the points for course higher in their preference) gets the course... So when we say Law in UCD is 560 points we actually mean the lowest student who got the course got 560 points (4 As, 2 Bs). The might applied for Actuarial Maths as there number 1 which 580 but they failed to get that...

So points are set by supply (number of places) and Demand (the points of applicants)...

There is no affirmative action, no quota of any gender, race or creed.. While some might say that is unfair but while there is nothing affirmative there is no financial barrier either... Kids in IReland come out of University generally debt free...

You are putting supply and demand in only monetary value... Is the goal of the Education system to make the pupils the best they can be...
Students study a lot harder if they know it is there actions and there results that solely affect their placement.

It is supply and demand and I have done enough economics (in college) to know that is it... The demand is driven by the number of points needed for the courseand the supply is the places in particular courses in College.. The American system is distorting the demand by placing financial constraints which just distorts the market.
