My question is why do we as black people always feel like we have to dumb things down so that unintelligent, uneducated, white people can get it?? Why do we have to clarify black lives matter when we hear all lives matter? And why oh why....Do we keep saying that we need to ensure that there are no negative portrayals of black people in entertainment because white people will believe that the portrayal will represent all black people??? Why are we making them comfortable and secure in their stupidity of believing that what they see in entertainment represents all people of color to the point that we want to alter the roles? Changing the portrayal would only address the symptom, not the real problem. STOP FEELING THE NEED TO DUMB IT DOWN. If you as an artist want to tell your story then tell your story. If you are inspired to write about a criminal to express your point, then do so. You don't have to explain anything. If someone was so STUPID that they believed a certain portrayal represents everyone in a specific group, I wouldn't want to appeal to that audience anyway. Not all white people are stupid, but....As long as you dumb it down to their level, they will never experience personal growth.
