No one in his right mind can claim the Bible offers scientific proof of anything.

However, this does not alter in any way the religious significance and purpose of the Bible which has nothing to do with Science and everything to do with man's relationship to God.

I was thinking about this while listing to NPR today. They were talking about how Christianity needs to stop saying Gay is a sin. For one, it is not a sin. That's just what men 2000 years ago thought. They didn't know the science behind it. These men approved of slavery too so who are they to judge? So you see, your religion is just way too puny and small. There are way too many problems with your religion for it to be from any god. It is clearly made up.

The other thing I thought about was how easily your religion is ready to back peddle when their position becomes outdated. I'll bet you anything in time your man made up religion will drop the anti gay stuff. If they don't they will continue to disappear because we intelligent people see/understand/realize that gays are who they are. You can't force a gay to be straight just like you can't force a straight to be gay. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a bi sexual themselves because they believe being gay is a choice. Her findings are still under peer review. Maybe she should wait for the scientific community to go over their findings and then show us what the scientific consensus says. My guess is they won't like the findings. But like I said, I think science would love to be proven wrong if they are in deed wrong. It isn't us who has a holy book that is not open to debate. Everything we believe is open for discussion.

See? It won't matter to you either way. The thing about science is the truth is so much better than your ancient stories. We are to assume that these fountains are the result of Hydrothermal Vents on the ocean floor discovered by scientists in 1977. This proves nothing other than Noah saw what he believed to be a fountain of water in the ocean. Maybe it was cataracts since he was 600 years old Or maybe it was the result of Hydrothermal Vents or maybe it was just a whale spout. There is no way knowing what he saw, or even saw anything at all.

This is certainly good evidence as to why we should not consider the Bible a book of science. The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by 40 authors over 1500 years ago in 3 different language. Scholars can't agree on what the various verses mean so we have over 50 versions in English with varying interpretations. No one in his right mind can claim the Bible offers scientific proof of anything.

However, this does not alter in any way the religious significance and purpose of the Bible which has nothing to do with Science and everything to do with man's relationship to God.

There actually may be a creator of our universe. When you look at our bodies on a molecular level, you see a tiny universe within us. If you look at a drop of water you see a tiny planet of many living things. After watching the Cosmos I truly believe in Multiverses. Our universe is just one universe in an infinate number of universes. Like bubbles one might die out but another one appears and each one lasts billions and billions of years. Maybe we are just a universe in some giant cows body on a planet somewhere called Merth? So, one can discuss with them on a factual basis, at least with most of them.

If you take really devout people in a european church, best you Ireland because they are catholic to the bone, and show them your 'churches of the holy whatever' with people in trance howling "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus..." and the ghost healer preacher touching some haywire bitch who goes unconcious immediately and is suddenly able to walk or talk, I tell you they woud send you immediately to a mental hospital.

I have the strong impression that you Americans lost your european heritage completely. We had this cult since over 1500 years, and pretty often it was not very healthy for our predecessors, to say at least. This is not forgotten, so we are pretty sober about it.
Most people take it as rather symbolic or spiritual part of their life as guidline or comfort cushion for the still lots of unknowns in our existance. Because, we have no other ones, the chuch has killed them. Although some hard dying foundations stil remain. How comes then that we are so much of a faulty design that every medium talented high school student would say to countless issues of body and brain: "come on, let's dump this and sketch it up new".
If you really believe that god created you in his image you should be deeply concerned for your eternal future, because you are insulting a real genius in his core talents. And this genius is, as you well-versed bible guy should know, pretty resentful.

Another point is, that you religious people see the universe and its related physical conditions as a linear extrapolation of the ambient earthly conditions which we are born into. And the only ones to which we are adaptet and able to reckognize.
This isn't the case. Time, space, matter, energy etc. pp. are not what we expected them to be still 100 years ago. Even 50. Actually we started the most basic natural science only around 250 years ago, barely 10 generations. When your country was founded we knew hardly more than setting sails, watching a compass and mixing gun powder.

Our brain is not built to understand quantum physics or astronomical distances, the behaviour of space and time, as it does with lions in the savannah 500 meters away. But we can develop the ideas, they result from otherwise unsolvable problems, we can develop the math for it, and prove it with experiments.

It is really difficult to imagine how fucking stupid some people effectively are.

Listen: I was born in a very catholic environment. I know all of this stuff. The original one, not the bullshit stories of your television preachers.
Maybe you don't know the difference: But that's not my problem.

My problem is the irrationality behind it. Actually this is also the case with the original organized church, but its representatives are at least really academically educated people, graduated or with Ph.D. of theological faculties of real universities, not some fantasy ones.
So, one can discuss with them on a factual basis, at least with most of them.

If you take really devout people in a european church, best you Ireland because they are catholic to the bone, and show them your 'churches of the holy whatever' with people in trance howling "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus..." and the ghost healer preacher touching some haywire bitch who goes unconcious immediately and is suddenly able to walk or talk, I tell you they woud send you immediately to a mental hospital.

I have the strong impression that you Americans lost your european heritage completely. We had this cult since over 1500 years, and pretty often it was not very healthy for our predecessors, to say at least. This is not forgotten, so we are pretty sober about it.
Most people take it as rather symbolic or spiritual part of their life as guidline or comfort cushion for the still lots of unknowns in our existance. Because, we have no other ones, the chuch has killed them. Although some hard dying foundations stil remain. I am for example not aware if you know why you celebrate christmas, Easter or Halloween on this special dates. And who put them when onto that dates and for what reason. Lots of Europeans still know, or at least feel it somehow.

But back to the irrationality. See, if we assume just for once there is a creator of this universe who also created humans as his image, he is a damned good scientist and engineer. Inconceivably good.
How comes then that we are so much of a faulty design that every medium talented high school student would say to countless issues of body and brain: "come on, let's dump this and sketch it up new".
If you really believe that god created you in his image you should be deeply concerned for your eternal future, because you are insulting a real genius in his core talents. And this genius is, as you well-versed bible guy should know, pretty resentful.

Another point is, that you religious people see the universe and its related physical conditions as a linear extrapolation of the ambient earthly conditions which we are born into. And the only ones to which we are adaptet and able to reckognize.
This isn't the case. Time, space, matter, energy etc. pp. are not what we expected them to be still 100 years ago. Even 50. Actually we started the most basic natural science only around 250 years ago, barely 10 generations. When your country was founded we knew hardly more than setting sails, watching a compass and mixing gun powder.

Our brain is not built to understand quantum physics or astronomical distances, the behaviour of space and time, as it does with lions in the savannah 500 meters away. But we can develop the ideas, they result from otherwise unsolvable problems, we can develop the math for it, and prove it with experiments.
If someone tells you he understands it he is lying.

So if you think that someone could explain this to you in this forum in a few simple sentences, you really did not hear the shot.
