The lie that when wages go up,jobs go down

How could self-respecting economists suggest that an increase in the minimum wage might encourage job growth and hiring? Well, first of all, there’s what economist Michael Reich calls “income effect”: People on the minimum wage tend to spend everything they earn. Increases in the minimum wage thus flow back into the economy (again, like the tide flowing upstream), generating increased demand, which in turn increases hiring and investment. It is a basic principle of capitalism that when workers have more money, businesses have more customers, and when businesses have more customers, they hire more workers. This income effect may not have left a large mark on the historical data, because historically, most minimum wage increases have been relatively small. But it is real and should be taken into account. And in an era of depressed demand and consumer spending, as we are now, higher wages are exactly what our economy needs.
But I thought Nancy said food stamps were the best way to stimulate the economy...

I've come to view minimum wage laws as kind of a litmus test for basic reasoning skills.

How the $15 wage is already killing Seattle jobs

"
Seattle passed its $15 law in June 2014. Starting last April, it raised the minimum from $9.32 (the state minimum wage) to $10 for certain business, $11 for others.

Increases to $12, $12.50 and $13 an hour began taking effect for most employers this Jan. 1. The jumps will continue until the minimum hits the full $15 an hour in 2017 for some before it’s universal in 2019.

Yet even the early impact is harsh.

The AEI study, worked up from Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly surveys, shows that, between April and December last year, Seattle saw the biggest employment drop in any nine-month period since 2009 — a full year into the Great Recession.

The city unemployment rate rose a full percentage point.

Before the minimum-wage hikes begin, Seattle employment tracked the rest of the nation — slowly rising from the 2008-09 bottom. But it started to plunge last spring, as the new law began to kick in.

Furthermore, Seattle’s loss of 10,000 jobs in just the three months of September, October and November was a record for any three-month period dating back to 1990.

There, it's debunked. It's amazing how much reality you people must ignore to hang on to your stupid positions.

Bullshit.

Article is from early 2016, jumping the gun on short term trend and presenting it as meaningful evidence. But for the rest of 2016 the unemployment feel right down to what it was before minimum wage increase:

No you didn't dick wad. What you presented was the simple fact the newly unemployed in Seattle proper had to go outside the city to find employment. Or they just moved out of town. One way or another they couldn't maintain their jobs in Seattle so had to take drastic measures to survive and never saw a single check worth 15 bucks an hour. If you have your way they won't be able to go anywhere to get a job as those jobs will all be gone everywhere.

OK I will bite how in your fantasy world did you beat us at the ballot Box?

So, my opposition to minimum wage laws has nothing to do with the presumed impact on the economy. I just think government shouldn't have that kind of power. But I have a question for proponents who are arguing that it actually helps. Are you saying there is no negative impact at all to banning low-wage jobs? Or are you saying that the negative impacts on the economy are countered by positives that make it a net win? If so, is there some point of diminishing returns to that net win?

The reason I ask is that the natural response to a claim that banning low wage jobs has no negative repercussions is why we would bother with $15/hr when we could do $30 or $40 - or higher yet. MW advocates always ignore this question and I wonder why. Is it that they know it does have a negative impact, but that at low levels it won't matter much?
