Like nearly all crime, this is a blue city problem, of course. The article says "across the nation", but look at every location they mention: Seattle, Houston, Minneapolis, Oakland, Los Angeles. Blue shitholes, all of them.

True...but those are also really the only places EVs make sense.

Sometimes Islam gets it right.
These guys would have their hands removed in the Middle East.

and has been for decades.
If they'll tear it out of the walls...30 seconds with bolt cutters seems like a walk in the park.

Did you see where they're stealing fire hydrants in LA?

Leave the cable energized even when not in use. It is a problem that will take care of itself in short order.

South LA’s Golden State Water company has installed locked shields that cover the fire hydrant’s bolts. The hope is that will make them harder to steal.
Every problem has a solution.
As for the problem of theft, it is a very American thing to do.

Yep....4 10 foot strands of 4 gauge copper lead. Worth about 175 bucks
Runs about $2.25/ft at Lowe's for just the bare wire. So yeah, I can imagine the cables are worth quite a bit.

Yep.... Some of them are four strand some three strand. Leeds run between 8 and 10 ft. Between the wire and the hardware probably two grand to replace each one.

Odd thing for thieves to do.
Nope. I've seen them steal the lines off a power pole before the electricity was hooked up. Haven't you heard about stealing air conditioners to get the copper from them?
