time to return to enhanced interrogation's NOW

I find it hard to believe that anyone actually believes we ever stopped torturing terror suspects. If they have good enough reason, water boarding is going to be the least of the guys worries.

(My bold)

Sure we did. Torture & Extraordinary Rendition phased out once the W admin saw the results of Gitmo, waterboarding, the pix out of Abu Ghraib & so on. (To the extent that our European & Middle Eastern allies began to refuse to extradite suspects to US custody. Plus several countries began legal proceedings against our Extraordinary Rendition out of their airports &/or airspace.) That is exactly the same time that drones began to be armed & Hellfire drone strikes ramped up, to the current level of activity. We still kill/injure too many civilians in drone strikes, & we'll have to find some more sustainable technique to decapitate Al Queda & related organizations. But drones are a start.

BURTON . . . was then taken into the corridor, strapped to a stretcher, which
was tilted so that his head was toward the floor and feet resting on a nearby
sink. Water was then poured down his nose and mouth
for about twenty
minutes . . . . ASANO (5 star), the civilian interpreter of the camp . . . was
responsible for this water treatment, and had done the beating and poured the
water down BURTON’s nose and mouth.

[T]hey stood them on their heads and poured water
down their noses and into their mouths until they almost
choked.84
Genji Mineno was tried separately at Yokohama85 for participating
in the same series of events.86 The evidence introduced
against him included the same affidavits and witness statements introduced
against the other four defendants. On the basis of that evidence,
87 all five were convicted of all torture specifications. It is
worth noting that, in Minano’s case, the reviewing officer “in view of
the proof of the guilt of the accused of the many beatings and other
vicious tortures” thought his sentence of twenty years confinement at
hard labor was “inadequate.”89

Specification 5. That in or about August, 1943, the accused, Genji Mineno,
together with other persons did, willfully and unlawfully, brutally mistreat and
torture George De Witt Stoddard and William O. Cash, American Prisoners of
War, by strapping them to a stretcher and pouring water down their nostrils.
Specification 9. That in or about 15 May, 1944, the accused, Genji Mineno,
did, willfully and unlawfully, brutally mistreat and torture Thomas B.
Armitage, William O. Cash, and Munroe Dave Woodall, American Prisoners of
War, by beating and kicking them, by forcing water into their mouths and
noses
, and by pressing lighted cigarettes against their bodies.

Surgeon First Lieutenant Hata was sentenced to twenty-five year confinement at
hard labor. Mr. Mineno, the civilian guard, and Mess Sergeant Nakamura both received
twenty years confinement at hard labor. Sergeant Major Kita and Mr. Asano, the interpreter,
were given confinement for fifteen years at hard labor.

Waterboarding is UNEQUIVOCALLY torture.

The use of Hellfire missiles fired from Predator drones overseas in military operations is much like the bombing of Germany with B-24 bombers in WWII.

To try to extrapolate the weapons of war used overseas into the idea the government is going to start strafiing US citizens on American soil with drones is the epitome of stupidity. Did the government start bombing Americans with B-24s?

Don't be such gullible fucks. I swear, TH3 DUMB around here is getting way too thick.

Not to worry. We will keep rejecting right-wing statist progressives like you and the Bushies.

Thank you for proving it is the lunatics infecting the right wing who are all about torture and violating the Constitution, dipshit.

It was regular interrogation techniques that ultimately led to OBL. Not the torture techniques approved by the Bush administration.

Please specify the "torture techniques" you refer to. Do you consider any coercion to be torture, or should all terror suspects be given Miranda rights and advised to "lawyer up?"

Admittedly, this is a tricky question. "Insurrection" has been cited as a basis for withholding these rights, but it is difficult to define when it comes to small scale terrorism. Perhaps the wounding of multiple victims unrelated to a specific criminal objective should be included?

Its a "tricky question" ONLY if you want to make sure they get away with their crime. If you want the GUILTY to be convicted and punished, then YES, you Mirandize and provide the CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED ATTORNEY.

Why do rw's hate our Constitution so much?

rw's love wars. They love killing thousands and thousands of US and other citizens. It has to do with their lack of balls and love of guns.

We should make free Viagra available to all rw's.

Make no mistake. I don't love drones. I believe our real enemy is war itself and we need to get past this insane need to kill for oil or religion.

But, I'll take drones over the $trillions added to our debt and hundreds of thousands of dead and maimed.

Making a person who sole purpose in life is to kill/maim to drink water until he/she panics is not torture.

Yes, it is. It very much is.

My son's in Psy Ops....he's been waterboarded at LEAST 2 times. He says it's horrible, but he also believes it's needed and is the best way to get information. If someone is going to come with the sole purpose to kill as many Americans as possible, I couldn't care less what our military or Govt does to them! But you go ahead and feel sorry for them.....

If you support that, you are evil. Never breed.

you have people who set an explosion to kill innocent people, maim them, change there lives for ever, no mention of them
And you attack a person who thinks we should do what it takes to protect YOU and YOUR faimly?
And you call me evil?
Really?
I find that rather strange that you would call me evil and ignore those who did the real hurt

All I am trying to do is prevent the next evil act

So who are you?

this is no game
defending people who do acts of terror while attacking those of us who think we should do what it takes to protect YOU and YOUR faimly from being attacked?
not a good time bud, not a good time
you might want to explain your hate for me and why you ignore those who those who try to kill us before someone else askes you that question

The rule of law MUST BE UPHELD. If the bomber's rights are ignored, WE ALL HAVE NO RIGHTS. It really is that simple.

Stopped torture?

Obama Administration Maintains Bush Position on ‘Extraordinary Rendition’ Lawsuit

A source inside of the Ninth U.S. District Court tells ABC News that a representative of the Justice Department stood up to say that its position hasn’t changed, that new administration stands behind arguments that previous administration made, with no ambiguity at all. The DOJ lawyer said the entire subject matter remains a state secret.

Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director of the ACLU said of the decision: “Eric Holder’s Justice Department stood up in court today and said that it would continue the Bush policy of invoking state secrets to hide the reprehensible history of torture, rendition and the most grievous human rights violations committed by the American government. This is not change. This is definitely more of the same. Candidate Obama ran on a platform that would reform the abuse of state secrets, but President Obama’s Justice Department has disappointingly reneged on that important civil liberties issue. If this is a harbinger of things to come, it will be a long and arduous road to give us back an America we can be proud of again.”
