Tom Delay claims God wrote Constitution

Before any man can be considerd as a member of Civil Society, he must be considered as a subject of the Governour of the Universe: And if a member of Civil Society, do it with a saving of his allegiance to the Universal Sovereign. We maintain therefore that in matters of Religion, no man's right is abridged by the institution of Civil Society and that Religion is wholly exempt from its cognizance. True it is, that no other rule exists, by which any question which may divide a Society, can be ultimately determined, but the will of the majority; but it is also true that the majority may trespass on the rights of the minority. -James Madison. Religious Freedom Page: Memorial and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments, James Madison (1785)

Madison believed in God First, through Conscience, not dictate. Separation of Church and State is a Christian concept. Render unto Caesar.... The principles this Nation were founded on are Christian. From Christ, to Locke, to Thoreau, You were whom, we were warned about. ;)

First of all, who cares? We are no more obligated to be bound to the beliefs of the founders than the founders were bound to the beliefs of King George.

Secondly, what you're claiming is what is contrary to what Delay is claiming. You're claiming that secular government is a Christian principle.

Delay is complaining that we are a secular nation.

What is Henry David Thoreau's religion?
In: Slavery, Henry David Thoreau [Edit categories]
Answer:
Thoreau was a transcendentalist, who held views very much akin to pantheism. As Thoreau scholar, Alan Hodder, comments, "This divine reality [of Thoreau] is neither he nor she, above nor beyond, past nor future, but is now timelessly here." Hodder concludes that Thoreau advanced "an ecstatic religion of nature." [1] In Thoreau's own words, he advises us "to be always on the alert to find God in nature." [2]

The Framers were not of one mind, nor did they speak with one voice, what a given Framer might have believed is not the final determining factor with regard to the meaning of any aspect of the Constitution; and must be considered only in the context of other relevant primary sources and Constitutional case law.

The genius of America’s founders is to have had the forethought to not establish a religious government, where religion is not completely removed from government, but subordinate to the rule of secular law.

Tom DeLay Claims God 'Wrote The Constitution'

“I think we got off the track when we allowed our government to become a secular government,” DeLay told host Matthew Hagee, the executive pastor of the Texas Cornerstone Church. “[W]e stopped realizing that God created this nation, that he wrote the Constitution, that it’s based on biblical principles.”
James Madison is going to be surprised....

So...god wrote the Constitution.  Tommy....whoever said it was correct...James Madison would sure be surprised to hear that.

They references a lot of things in their writings.....particularly Freemasonry and Enlightenment stuff. :D

"For the framers of the Constitution were the most liberal thinkers of all the ages and the charter they produced out of that liberal revolution of their time has never been and is not now surpassed in liberal thought."
General Douglas MacArthur

I think Mac got carried away a mite, the framers were of different pursuasions but it's true the ideas were liberal, ideas from the Age of Enlightenment, a progressive period in history. The Declaration of Independence is probably even more liberal being written by Jefferson, a Deist. The question today seems to be that both documents are far too liberal for many of our present citizens.

There is a large segment of the U.S. population that believes that the United States is the new Israel - God's chosen people.

They believe God rewards and punishes the United States of America (Just as the Old Testament describes his relationship with Israel) based on the U.S.'s adherence to His law.

There is absolutely no Biblical (or common sense) basis for such a belief.

I suspect you are right. IF some were given the choice, the Constitution would have a few less rights.
