Because he was told that an even worse case was fabricated against Flynn's son. Those faked records and witnesses would put his son away for life. Comey was very clear. They were not going to let him out of that room without Flynn pleading to a lie. That's why he was denied an attorney.

He flipped and got a "no jail time" sentencing agreement. Ya can't ASK for a better deal...but when he went before the judge in the sentencing trial and the judge read what he had done (not released to the press) the judge FREAKED the FUCK OUT...and started talking about "treason". He then suspended the hearing until a later date...
