Trust the Government?

Someone keeps electing the same people over and over again. There is no greater form of trust you can bestow upon someone (outside of your family) than to vote for him or her...

If you vote for someone, you, by definition, trust them to some degree. When you return the same people over and over again, you are demonstrating trust to a much greater degree.

Americans, by and large, love their Congressman....otherwise we'd have 75% turnover at minimum every 2 years.

i call that stupidity not trust.....

Call it what you want; there aren't that many "stupid" people out there much less "stupid" people voting.

People love their congressmen and they re-elect them at overwhelming rates.
yep....."your Congress person is the problem.....mine is doing their job"......and in the meantime the country is going down the shitter......Stupidity or trust?.........i call it stupidity to not recognize that your Congress person is just as bad as the next one.....

The bottom line is that the ballot is cast; arguing that someone is stupid for sending Mr. or Ms. Representative back by overwhelming margins or even without opposition is lazy analysis and is nothing more than an attempt at making the argument simplistic.

Voters trust their representatives...its as simple as that.

It's not about voters trusting their representatives. It's about voters wanting to trust, because the American people have been deceived and lied to alot.

Voters can be really gullible and want to believe that a particular person that is running for office will do all what they promised that they will do once they are in, but once that person is elected into office, they are under no obligation to fulfill any promises made while they campaigned.

Which leds to more disappointed, frustrated, angry voters not getting what they were promised, until someone new enters the sceane with all new promises and so the cycle continues.

Trust the government or not there is not a single person here who is not depending on the various governments that oversee our communities.

I honestly do not know a single person (lefties or righties) who has confidence that our governments are working for our benefit or are trustworthy.

This change in trust is relatively new...

There was a time when we might have thought our government were wrong, but few of us really thought they were a freaking menace to us personally.

Those days are done

I think what this thread comes down to is this; the word "trust" is being mischaracterized. You trust the government isn't reading the letters your postal carrier brings you, that if someone breaks into your house, the local government will catch and prosecute the criminal, that the Army and Marines are on station ready to defend us etc...

I think what you don't trust is that your tax money is being spent wisey.

A great amount of it is but you don't hear about that; it's not newsworthy that there are epidemiologists (sp?) sniffing out cases of TB likely in your community and making sure the disease doesn't spread; that there are health workers inspecting your drinking water right now to make sure you next shower isn't going to infect you; that your kids have clean swimming pools, that the roads you drive on are marked properly, etc... None of that is being reported. You do get the stories about needless spending sometimes...below is one that I trumpeted(http://www.usmessageboard.com/polit...ers-think-of-your-policies-2.html#post5345236).

You all should keep in mind that as we move forward, the old adage about what is news; Nobody cares when a dog bites a man--that is what they're supposed to do. We only care when a man bites a dog. For every one story you see in the press, you could see thousands of stories about traffic crews changing lightbulbs at busy intersections, flood control digging trenches so that mosquitoes are kept at bay, that burn breaks are put into the forests to limit the damage of wild fires, that our fighting men and women innoculated thousands of kids of our one-time enemy, etc...

Consider the good that is being done once in a while.

Brainwashed functional morons. I have a Masters in History, fluent in French. You? Nothing but a BS in Pubcrappe from Sean Rushbeck. Hitler was a socialist? "Absolute drivel" (the Economist and every where else).

Yeah. It's pure propaganda that the leader of the National Socialist party is a socialist.

And the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, ala North Korea is Democratic? Hitler was no socialists, and liquidated the left wing of the Nazi party during the "Night of the Longknives." Social Democrats and liberals were among the first to go to the concentration camps.

Trust in Government

For the past seven years, a period covering the final two years of the Bush administration and President Obama’s first term, no more than about three-in-ten Americans have said they trust the federal government to do the right thing always or most of the time.
