Voter ID and driver's license office closures black-out Alabama's Black Belt

I hope the people in these counties file a lawsuit, asap....

this is intentional, to keep id's out of the hands of citizens who may not vote the way the republicans in state power want.

ALABAMA, my state of birth, is up to its old, dirty tricks of racism....is what it seems.

You dont hear me crying because I have to drive 20 miles to the DL office.

What it really boils down to?
If you're so lazy you cant manage to go 20 miles for an ID so you can vote you shouldnt be voting.

I hope they file and win too.
Im a white person in a socialist state. I have to drive 15 miles to the DMV and then to make it worse, I have to have a solid understanding of Spanish to communicate with the people that work there.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's website says their office at the Clarke County Courthouse is still open, but soon a lot of others nearby won't be. On Wednesday, the agency announced that it would close 31 offices throughout the state, leaving 29 counties without a place where 16-year-olds can take a driver's test, whether they pass on the first try or not.

That's an inconvenience.

But there's something bigger happening here.

In 2011, Alabama lawmakers approved the state's voter ID law, making it illegal to vote in Alabama without a government-issued photo ID.

For most folks, that's a driver's license.

A student ID and a passport will work. Schools provide student IDs and the post office provides passports.

If no one is paying taxes how can they pay government employees?

I have always had to drive 20 miles to the dmv. And I don't live in a rural area.
BULL CRAP to the nth degree Misty eyed.

I just got my passport recently, it was nearly $100 and NO WAY JOSE' will the post office issue a passport with simply a student ID....

LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!

that's a Passport. not a state Id. come on Care. You can thank that FEDeral Government for that cost. but everyone thinks we don't pay enough already. so a couple offices close and OMG stop the world from spinning
stephanie, is 30 plus offices just a couple?

It was probably way too damn many as it was. We the people aren't all made of money. I've driven miles for things I need. time for people to adjust. the world isn't here for them

I honestly do not see how anyone can think this is not intentionally disenfranchising citizens of their right to vote?

Ya you need a birth certificate to get an ID. I never said a student ID can be used to get a passport.

So no one had an ID in Alabama before this.

the voter ID law was passed 4 years ago. I doubt the 2 are connected. There obviously isn't enough tax revenue to keep the dmvs open.

If they can find a way to get 30 miles to Wal-Mart for the 2 for 1 sale on spandex, Im pretty sure they can find a way to get 20 miles for an ID to vote.
Maybe the DMV is on the way.

He doesn't live there. And it is liberal hysteria trying to work everyone up again. Gets old real fast.

It only seems that way because you didn't care enough about the issue look into the reality of the situation.
No one will be disenfranchised because this change. No one.
That being the case, ti is impossible to argue that this change was motivated by a desire to disenfranchise.

seems like the change could have been motivated due to economic reasons.

As in state budgetary constraints?
Likely.
