Mitch McConnell seeks FBI investigation

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s reelection campaign asked the FBI and the U.S. attorney’s office on Tuesday to investigate how Mother Jones magazine obtained a recording of a February strategy session.

“Senator McConnell’s campaign is working with the FBI and has notified the local U.S. Attorney in Louisville, per FBI request, about these recordings,” McConnell campaign manager Jesse Benton said in a statement. “Obviously a recording device of some kind was placed in Senator McConnell’s campaign office without consent. By whom and how that was accomplished presumably will be the subject of a criminal investigation.”

Secret Tape: McConnell and Aides Weighed Using Judd's Mental Health and Religion as Political Ammo | Mother Jones

On February 2, Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the US Senate, opened up his 2014 reelection campaign headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky, and in front of several dozen supporters vowed to "point out" the weaknesses of any opponent fielded by the Democrats. "They want to fight? We're ready," he declared. McConnell was serious: Later that day, he was huddling with aides in a private meeting to discuss how to attack his possible Democratic foes, including actor/activist Ashley Judd, who was then contemplating challenging the minority leader. During this strategy session—a recording of which was obtained by Mother Jones—McConnell and his aides considered assaulting Judd for her past struggles with depression and for her religious views.

That is what happens in bull sessions, anyone knows that. Every idea, no matter how absurd it might seem, is presented and hashed out because some absurd ideas actually lead to good ones. The simple fact is, they never used them, the Deomcrats are the ones that killed Judd's run.

God bless a free press.

Sorry if Mitch doesn't like it.

If it was done by someone in the meeting then the legality of it is cloudy, at best, depends on the state law. If a recording device was planted before the meeting then it's a violation of federal law and the media outlet is not protected against disclosing their source since it was done illegally.

McConnell was the least popular senator before this revelation. Watch his popularity drop further.

Somehow the office was bugged. Mother Jones was attempting to use the tape of McConnell against him. Mother Jones reportedly got ahold of the tape from a source and was trying to smear McConnell with it because they were discussing his opponent's mental health issues.

This is an example of somebody breaking the law and liberals trying to capitalize on it whichever way the story pans out. This is gutter politics of the worst kind. I think charges should be brought against Mother Jones for slander and they should be ordered to reveal their source because the tape was obtained illegally from somebody with criminal intent.

Actually Chris Cristy was, followed by John McCain and Lindsey Graham.

Least popular? Seriously? Does that include Rand Paul?

Yeah, I wish we could listen to Obama when he was discussing the cover story for Benghazi....

That would be cool as shit. :eusa_angel:

Almost as cool as the shit of a government worker 'Conservative' that whines about smaller government. Just because it is his paycheck that is getting smaller. After all, Mud, you are a government expense, supported by the work of real taxpayers like myself.

LOL. Wonder if it was one of those minimum wage people they have doing there serving? Appropriate revenge, indeed.

Yup, justifiable criminality.

I really think fuckers like you don't see anything the left does wrong. By any means possible, right comrad?

FYI. Criminals winning elections by using illegal tactics only means you never can afford to trust your government.
