The one that was securely facing them at the time was 3 1/2 Million Armed WWI Veterans who were owed money by the Government, they were scared, hungry, their children were hungry and cold and, what's worse, they were armed. What was to stop them from ransacking D.C.? about 75,000 Federal Troops. And they were marching on DC. You tell me what else they could have done except find something to appease them? The other option would have been the end of the United States of America and the Constitution of the United States.

I don't personally think that a Biden presidency would be as bad for the country as some people are saying that it will be but I do hope that if he does win that he makes a point to put some moderate voices within his administration to help bring the different sides together a bit more. I think the one thing that all Americans can agree on is that the past four years have been extremely divisive and unhealthy for the country and that it's time to try and find commonality again in my opinion.

Your post reminds me of a story that I heard a long time ago, and an update that I learned much more recently about it.

The story had it that some obscure official from the Soviet Union was paying a visit to the United States, and was not terribly impressed by any of the technological marvels that his handlers showed him; but was overwhelmed when they happened to make a stop at a grocery store.
