What Is It You Think You Can't Do Because of Political Correctness?

Well, for one thing racial candor does not exist because of PC.

Told ya? You want to elaborate on how candor is compromised?

No, really. When were the good old days? When wife-beating was legal? When children could be maimed in factories and mine shafts? When cops could openly release attack dogs on little black kids who wanted to drink from a certain water fountain? When white male landowners were the only ones who could vote?

When exactly were the good old days? If Republicans can't answer that very simple question, then why do they keep talking about the "good ol' days"?

only you libs refer to the good ole days. There was a lot wrong in our past, but you are mixing those wrongs with freedom of expression.

expressing Christian beliefs is not analogous to oppression of blacks.

Damn, you libs twist everything back to racism. But we get it, its all you have as an argument.

That is ridiculous.

There has been a lot of discussion about "Political Correctness" recently so I'd like to know what it is that you all feel political correctness is preventing you from doing. It has even been suggested that Political Correctness had done more harm than bigotry itself.

Somebody please explain how PC is "ruining our society" and what you think you can't do because of it.

It comes as no surprise, of course, that no one has been able to respond to this, given the fact there’s no such thing as ‘political correctness.’

Provided it’s legal and not subject to reasonable prior restraint, one is at liberty to say what he wishes.

What is occurring is private American society has long grown weary of the hate and ignorance exhibited by many conservatives, with regard to LGBT Americans, African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, and the immigration community, among others. Frustrated by this warranted and appropriate rebuke, conservatives contrived the myth of ‘political correctness’ in an effort to deflect attention from their hate and ignorance and fabricate a false narrative of an ‘intolerant liberal society’ seeking to ‘silence’ the opposition.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Conservatives are simply going to have to accept the fact that although they’re at liberty to say what they wish, and exhibit their hate and ignorance of other members of American society, those maligned are not going to remain silent and intimidated by the ‘political correctness’ myth, they will speak out against that ignorance and hate in the context of private society, where private society will make the determination as to what constitutes appropriate speech, free from interference by the state or the courts.

This is the essence of a truly free and democratic society – it should be encouraged and celebrated, not feared and derided, as most conservatives are wont to do.

So now it's back to the fall back argument that anyone who disagrees with you is a homophobe racist, ROFLMAO.

Hummmmm ..... It looks like some of you are confusing 'candor' with rudeness. So would it be candor or rudeness if you call a black person a ******? How about calling an Italian a wop? When would/should it be the proper time and setting to call a Hispanic person a ****?

It is ridiculous; it also doesn’t make any sense.

But let’s assume the poster is referring to using racial slurs, for example; since there’s no such thing as ‘PC,’ one is at liberty to use racial slurs to his heart’s content.

Of course, members of the race whom he maligns are at liberty to respond and object to the use of the racial slurs, but that’s the nature of a free and democratic society, and why there’s no such thing as ‘political correctness.’

Many conservatives might incorrectly believe that this constitutes some sort of de facto ‘censorship,’ when in fact it does not. Again, conservatives remain free to express their hate and ignorance, and if they refrain from making hateful, ignorant statements because they understand they’ll be rebuked by private society, that’s their decision alone, having nothing to do with ‘censorship,’ as private society is at liberty to admonish those who engage in inappropriate speech or behavior.

Are you going to try and support this claim?

I'll give you an example. Jessie Jackson claimed there is war on black people in America, right? The context was during the whole Zimmerman fiasco...Remember? Well, in polite society I can't counter his claim by saying the empirical data shows it is in fact blacks that have done the majority of the killing in terms of interracial killing. We can say it on the internet, but this isn't exactly polite society, which is why I like this place :).

It prevents you from having open honest and frank discussions about controversial topics if you oppose gay marriage your a homophob you want secure borders your anti Hispanic on the flip side if you support the right to choose your a baby killer or oppose certain anti programs your anti American. Finally here is something just to consider a show that is considered one of the best sitcoms of all time All in the family could not get on a non cable network of today's P.C. world.

Wrong.

Open and honest discussions are absolutely not prevented. That is a load of crap....one that many here seem to be saddled with.

I just provided the definition of candor. Here is another one. Candor - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

can·dor noun \ˈkan-dər, -ˌdȯr\
: the quality of being open, sincere, and honest

All In The Family could absolutely get on TV. Whether or not it could get on network TV is only in question due to the CONSERVATIVE nature of the FCC. Fortunately, we have cable...so it is not a question. I watched an episode of All In The Family last week. Cool, huh?

By Ken Levine: What you can and can't say on television

Side question.....are you one of the All In The Family fans who don't grasp the fact that the entire show was an exercise in mocking conservatives?
