Not only was he incapable of remembering what he was supposed to say, he was incapable of understanding what he was being asked. My grandmother was diagnosed as such, and she went downhill just like we're all watching the illegitimate squatter at 1600 Pennsylvania crash and burn.

Hombre's mom lived to be 100 but was in progressive dementia that last 20 years or so. His dad died of Alzheimer's. And we have had a few others among family and friends over the years who were diagnosed with dementia. When you observe what that is, how it progresses, what it does to a person versus those just getting older, in worse health and more forgetful as time passes, you know very well the difference when you see it. Aunt Betty's health isn't what it was and she is having some memory issues at age 98 and is quite frustrated about both. But she isn't suffering from dementia. I, her personal physician and a psychiatrist who tested her all agree she isn't having dementia.

"Leading" might be a stretch when it comes to Carter--even he admitted that--but yes, he was in full control of his faculties and fully in control of his position. One of those actually decent and likable people who just got put into a job he was not able to handle competently. But I never questioned whether he cared or whether he wanted to do good things for America and Americans. I believe he did.

Let's be honest, anyone in Joe's frail condition would be using a walker right. That's the age when simply falling can break a hip and do real damage. The guy clearly needs something to steady himself. There's nothing to be ashamed of, that's part of getting old. That the guy is clearly afraid of falling and they don't let him use a walking assistance device is really sad.

Its a matter of time before he falls and does break a hip. That is a long, long recovery.....especially his old age....
