When will California politicians do something about their poverty epidemic? 20.6% live in filth

What’s mind blowing is; despite the level of poverty and filth in Mexifornia there seems to be no push by politicians to make any attempt at cleaning up the place and or attracting good quality people. It’s like they gave up, as if they know that no one decent will find their shithole attractive. It’s just plain bizarre.
Do politicians in all poverty stricken states bust their asses jumping through fiery hoops to continue recruiting federal criminals and the lowest grade humans they can find? Seems a bit counterproductive to an already filth infested state...no?

I meet Mexican kids quite often that fill the bill for being quality people who are not afraid of work. Maybe being married to an Hispanic lady at one time, living in South America for awhile, and at least knowing some Spanish to get by, changed my perspective on things.

50. West Virginia
West Virginia’s unemployment rate of 4.5% in May was only slightly higher than the national jobless rate of 4.3% and exceptionally low compared to a number of other states on the low end of this list. However, the state has the worst job growth rate in the nation, with the number of jobs actually shrinking by 0.5% on average each year over the five years through 2016. Fewer than 20% of adults in West Virginia have a bachelor’s degree, the lowest percentage of all states. College-level education in a population is widely considered a key element of economic health.

What does all this mean?
That most people in WV are working and job growth is lethargic because of it?

It sounds like West Virginia has real challenges in both educating people and then keeping companies in the state to employ the states job seekers...

We hear CA politicians circle-talk about improving infrastructure, healthcare and education but we almost never hear them talk about their nation leading poverty level and or their nation leading homelessness. Has California become comfortable in their filth? Have they conceded to becoming a thirdworld society? Even the “citizens” don’t say much about it or seem to mind living in plight. What kind of people do you have, what kind of place do you have when “citizens” are complacent and accepting of living like human cockroaches?

Poverty in California: Recently Released Census Data
Lol yet another thread about the greatest state in the union.
While you guys are busy bashing us, we are busy working to make your life better :). 6th largest economy in the world.

Haha...right.
Meanwhile, you live in a converted garage with seven other illegals in Mid-City.....and you’re right Hollywood and Silicon Valley kicks ass. WOOOHOOO!
I don't.

That’s a confusing statement...a 5% unemployment rate is considered to be full employment by most economists. Job growth always slows as economies reach full employment.
WV is a blue collar state without much tech industry. Most seek training in trades and trade schools after high school. Why does that suck?

More misinformation from the right .

The poverty level is about average in the US. It’s when you use that “supplemental “ version where the number is screwy . The article says that takes into account “cost of housing “ in that standard. Which causes a spike for Cali because housing is expensive because the state is SUCCESSFUL!

Hold on a minute..,are you suggesting that cost of living shouldn’t include housing expense?
When you figure your expense budget do you exclude your housing cost?
Back to the drawing board....Try again Timmy.

Im saying it’s not a true reflection of poverty. Just because you can’t afford a 1/2 million dollar house in Frisco doesn’t make you poor.

Here’s your list of poor states. All red accept New Mexico .

Quote) if one could find a house in San Francisco for 1/2 a million dollars you could re sell it and become a millionaire your self. that said, housing is the major reason for poverty in California. people want to live there, otherwise property would not be so high. true also average working people every where are less able to afford rent as wages stay stagnant & costs continue to rise.

We all have a couple warm hearted stories to tell...I have a tendency to look at larger sample sizes though...I like statistics, facts, and demographics across a wide range when I want to pinpoint an issue. We, as a state can’t really respond to issues based on our own personal encounters....right?

Yes it’s pricey . Doesn’t mean people are “living in filth” like the op would have you believe .

The poorest states are mostly red states . That’s the fact . Unless you invent targeted stats to paint a fake picture of Cali.

Why does that suck? BECAUSE... NOT SURE except WEST VIRGINIA also has an extremely high rate of OPIOD deaths............... TRY reading "Hillbilly Elegy"..." I grew up poor, in the Rust Belt, in an Ohio steel town that has been hemorrhaging jobs and hope for as long as I can remember." That’s how J. D. Vance begins one of this campaign season’s saddest and most fascinating books, “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis” (Harper). Vance was born in Kentucky and raised by his grandparents, as a self-described “hillbilly,” in Middletown, Ohio, home of the once-mighty Armco Steel.

It runs especially deep in California which is the world’s sixth biggest economy yet dotted by ragged tarpaulin encampments from Silicon Valley to Venice Beach to San Diego.

In Los Angeles County alone, the number of homeless spiked last year by 23% to nearly 60,000 people. Once confined largely to Skid Row, a grim tent city in the heart of downtown, the homeless have fanned out across the city, including Bel-Air, a neighborhood of mansions etched into canyons.

The problem is....being poor does NOT mean one has to live in filth. And many don't. But you put poverty out there, people immediately think "nasty/dirty/filthy" just like when the word homeless is used...the same happens with filthy/mental/lazy/addict. That is not true either in most cases.

Let me know how many photos of Mexifornia communities you need me post.

Yes that’s expensive . Your point? Are places where real estate is expensive typically filth shitholes ?

Poverty in California: Recently Released Census Data
California is just one state.

Appalachia covers 13 Republican states.

The White Ghetto

It's really quite sad. Republicans point to successful Democratic states and scream "foul".

But the truth is the Republican base is suffering. Their leaders only want them for their votes. As long ad they vote white, they feel they've won.
Their leaders only want them for their votes.
thats kinda like how the democrats look at their base...

no timmy they are not....my point is that there are lots of houses built in the 50's and 60's in less than desirable neighborhoods that go for 300-600 thousand dollars in Orange County anyway, but im sure its like that in LA county too....and many these houses need work....

I know . Boston area is similar . You are talking 1/2 mill for most houses in the city .
