Depending on the amount of the tariff, it could make Joe Q. Citizen say “fuck that shit. I’ll buy a non foreign competitor.” That means that nobody pays the tariff since people won’t buy the product.
 
Indeed. Perhaps if they became more expensive, due to tariffs, domestic manufacturing would increase.
The vast majority of US manufacturers don't want to manufacture in the U.S. They want to outsource the work to countries like china that have little or no wage and labor protections.

Tariffs won't change this since the companies can just charge more to customers nd make the same profits.

Until we start punishing companies for the use of sweatshop, or better yet outright abolish free trade with companies that allow them nothing eill chsnge.
