1). Evolution is not fact. It's a THEORY.

2). You are mistaking adaptation for evolution.

1. Evolution IS a fact. Children aren't identical to their parents. That's evolution in its most minute step. Viral mutation is another example. Bacteria becoming more resistant to anti-biotics is another. The domestication of animals is another. Different breeds of domesticated animals is another.

Evolution is not a theory. Natural Selection is one theory that attempts to describe the fact of evolution. Another theory is Sexual Selection. Another is genetic drift. There are several different theories which work in conjunction.

2. Adaptation is one way life evolves. It is a component of evolution.

Human beings evolved from the same life form from which monkeys also evolved.

All life is still evolving.

If circumstances that favor monkeys evolving into a species that use fire, invent the wheel, or bury their dead then, barring unforeseen disasters, that's what will happen. But we already occupy that niche so most likely monkeys will evolve into something else.

It seems like the theory of evolution is something we're supposed to believe because "scientists say so", sort of like global warming, global cooling, and nuclear winter.

You aren't supposed to believe in any of the theories that attempt to describe or explain evolution - or any other scientific theory. Belief has nothing to do with science. Scientific theories are simply a framework for scientists to make predictions. If, at any time, one of those predictions is found to be inaccurate then the theory is scrapped or revised. Theories are the best current explanation of the currently available evidence.

Nobody has figured out what has happened since the beginning of time. There are theories, but theories aren't facts. And you aren't meant to believe theories. Theories are simply the best current explanation and description of the currently available evidence and a framework in which scientists can make predictions. If any prediction proves to be inaccurate the theory is either revised or scrapped. Belief has nothing to do with it, and neither does capital "T" truth. Science is either useful as a tool or not, and theories are merely an extension of that usefulness.
