Why Didn't George W. Bush Close The Borders?

Listen guys, my point is simple. No one on the Republican side made it an issue when THEY HAD THE BEST CHANCE to do something about it during Bush's two terms.

You like to present your case in absolutes in order to frame it to your advantage.

I think I've found your error.
You assert that "no one on the Republican side made it an issue when THEY HAD THE BEST CHANCE to do something about it during Bush's two terms."

There's your mistake.
Lots of republicans didn't like bush or his policies.

You need to try to portray it as all republicans marching in lockstep unanimously, otherwise your flawed premise is exposed and collapses.
Perhaps you'd like to point me towards a link indicating where and how many Republicans were in opposition during that time. I sure as heck don't recall seeing any of them.

Please and thanks.

The Democrats blocked the republicans from securing the border.

The Republicans never had a filibuster proof majority.

They didnt because they would have totally alienated a voting block. They played to the rubes who want a closed border to get their votes. Because in the end, you can talk them into bed quite easily

They had ample time 8 years to be exact. 6 of which they were in full-control.

If the Republicans feel so strongly about this matter, why the HECK is the border still open and not closed/sealed as you now say is the most important thing ever?

Did Bush fail you? If so, are you denouncing him for that?

Seem that Republicans have a love/hate relationship with GW.

What gives?

Why hasn't Obama opened the borders?

Obama did in 2012.
This is why teens and children are flooding our boarders.

He had Iraq War on the brain. It was a great failure not to close the border then.

Thanks for reminding me.

He had the Iraq War on the brain and he BOTCHED that up too!

What a failure that man was.

Nothing done during the Bush administration compares with what obama is doing. True Bush didn't forsee the damage that a completely American hating president would do. No one expected that someone as damaging as obama would ever be elected.

Do you know that Obama has deported more people than Bush and Clinton ever did?

Tell me what, exactly, did Obama do to open the borders?

You have managed to put together 3 complete sentences that say absolutely NOTHING.

Good job! :clap2:

Ya' got me. It's amazing that the righties on this board think Obama is some kind of despot when this stuff sailed right over the pointy things on the tops of their heads:

MEXICAN TRUCKS DEFY CONGRESS, STILL ROLL
Bill cuts off funds, but Bush insists program can continue

“The Bush administration is showing itself to be a rogue administration,” Spencer said. “I understand the need to reduce the size of government, but I didn’t realize it could involve doing away with the entire legislative branch.

“It’s outrageous and hypocritical for the Bush administration to be preaching democracy around the world, while blowing off democracy at home,” he added.

Let's see if Katz catches the link I just put up. Katz is another one of those wingnuts who thinks history started in January 2009.

"Bush92"...."Bush92".....Oh yeah! "Read my lips, no new taxes"!!! Funny how a white guy can pull that shit but a black guy can't.

It's a good question. I would get irritated when Bush would speak more eloquently in Spanish than in English sometimes.

I'm all for being kind and helpful to our allies and neighbors, but this problem has gone far beyond that.

We don't need the borders closed per se, just secured so we know who is coming in. No one has addressed that with any real effort for decades, though it used to be more of a challenge for people to sneak in.

It's one thing to have borders that are wide open and ones that have guards who intend to stop illegal immigration. A lot of illegals were held and deported though many got past security. Many were initially here legally and simply stayed when their green card expired.

I take issue with Obama because it's not merely more of the security that leaves a lot to be desired. He is practically inviting more here with the promise of catch, release, then amnesty. The increase in illegal immigration is so far out of control that it's mind boggling.

Bush didn't do enough to secure the borders. No one before him addressed it either.

What should have been done was making it more undesirable for illegals to sneak in. We need to stop automatic citizenship for children born to people in this country illegally. No welfare. Just take care of them until they can be deported. Had we stuck to our federal immigration laws and made a few changes to the automatic citizenship clause, the problem would have taken care of itself. It's clear that not enough people in Washington wanted that or it would have been done.

It's like politicians on both sides ignored the problem and now the current administration has encouraged illegal immigration to the point where it's impossible to get a handle on things and Obama seems to think the only solution is waving a white flag and giving in to them. It's not what is best for America and I resent all the politicians for giving people of other countries more consideration than the citizens they are supposed to represent. It's wrong for any of them to spend time pandering to non-citizens when it will ultimately harm us.

I do think the left sees the advantage of excessive burdens on the middle class people because it breaks us down and moves us one step closer to socialism. With all the promises made to illegals, it has put Republicans on the spot to be nice since they'll all be voting someday. That was by design. And the children of illegals are often hostile to anyone not supporting more illegal immigration. That is also by design. It's all about an increased population of government dependents who will vote for the hand that feeds them. I curse the Republicans for buying into the hype that every Hispanic wants amnesty for those here illegally. Many came here the right way and are just as angry that millions have taken short cuts and have the nerve to make demands on the citizens of this country.

See what happens when dead bodies start coming out of those illegal immigrant warehouses.

Well, I haven't seen any Republican give a valid good thing Bush did during his term.
Yet, you demonize, bash and attack Obama for doing and/or allowing the same. exact. things that Bush did.
In this case, not closing the borders, but you had power for 6 of the 8 years of the Bush Regime to do so.
Do you see why it's hard to take you folks seriously?

Did the Bush Administration put over 30,000 illegal aliens convicted of crimes back on our streets? The Obama Administration did! The "Kumbaya Cabinet" doesn't think ANYONE should be in prison except for taxpayers who want to keep some of the money they earned. Those bastards need to get locked up! Everyone else? Well, if they're a potential Democratic vote...then they get to walk. Then you wonder why people don't like Barry?

It's rather amusing to watch you folks on the left "defend" Barack Obama by saying that he's no worse than George W. Bush!

Bet you didn't anticipate THAT back in the euphoria of 2008...did ya'?

43 was a proponent for amnesty .. one of 2 or 3 times the right ate him alive, and crapped him back out

President Bush tried to get immigration reform passed but the Democrats would not allow it. The reason is this. The Republicans want to secure the borders once and for all first and then discuss amnesty. The Democrats want amnesty for all illegals and allow their families to also come here (since they vote for Democrats) and then they will talk about securing the border. The Democrats pulled the same thing on Reagan and the border never got secured.
Homeland security has refused to send illegals back.
