Do the hilarious social commentators who have posted "socialism" and claims of far left leadership as an answer to the question by the OP actually believe that shit? I mean really? Or are they just using a joke which kinda lost its edge half way through the current CINC's first term?

Firstly America is about as far from left wing as it is able to be in this world no matter who is in charge and secondly if you look to the genuine left leaning developed countries in europe they all seem top be doing a hell of a lot better in terms of obesity, national debts and mass shootings (but then they're not allowed guns to do it with)

Countries that are top dog fall because they become complacent but this trend tales decades rather than years and it doesn't matter if Dems or Reps are in charge, the trend is the same and has been for a long time. Chinese simply work harder on average for less pay and so are hoovering up the world's money in a way that the USA did in its hayday. Romne didn't fall overnight and neither will the USA, but it is on its way down as the global superpower. No partisan political whining will stop this and both political parties will do their all to slow it as much as is possible.

When "doing your duty" as a citizen came to mean 2 things; paying your taxes and showing up once every 2 or 4 years to vote in the "big" elections. About 98% of all ordinances that effect your everyday life are passed at the local level. The fees you pay for garbage collection, the tolls you pay on the roads you travel upon, the fares for buses and transit, the number of cops on the street, etc... These elections are the most important and turnout is pathetic. I think it was 9 percent when we elected a mayor last year.

Any partisan bickering is just moronic glossing over the fact that most Americans can't be bothered with paying attention to the minutia.

Our greatest weakness is that so many citizens are convinced successes and failures of government are the direct cause of political affiliation, ideology and preference. You can see it in this thread. America's greatest successes were during times that people compromised and sought measures that benefited the nation without regard for a party and political affiliation. "More often" is not necessary. Making an example when we do would save us a world of trouble. Obama's fighting method of "feint then faint" has shit all over our lost troops killed in the last decade, and has accomplished the opposite. Obama's a laughing stock both here and abroad. More and more of his former officials are stepping forward to say how inept the man is.

Given the results of Obama's narcissism, I am compelled to go with their assessment. He has made the world a far more dangerous place.
