Why is Socialism so popular all of a sudden

Why are Americans so ignorant about the history of socialism and communism? Instead of courses being offered in schools and other learning institutions, it was used during the McCarthy era, as a political fear-word.

Exactly.

It reminds me of the DARE stuff they push on kids in high school. The simplistic fear tactics only backfired. When kids saw their friends smoking pot, and still getting A's on their tests and seeming to do well otherwise, they disregarded the warnings as nonsense.

But that doesn't mean drugs aren't dangerous.

social-ism is what we are referring to.

You got your jargon around the same time we got, a McCarthy era phrase in our pledge.
Social---ism is government in absolute control of all factories, refineries, constuction projects, farms, and ranches, etc.

If that is what you want, please go live somewhere else.

You stated that Government is socialism.

It's not.
Yes, Government is Socialism. How can it be otherwise?
No. Government in and of itself is not socialism. See above.
yes, it is; it relies on the Other Peoples' money.

relating to society or its organization.

Love it or hate it, is it not peculiar an idea that has been so taboo in our society is now mainstream, what happened? Why is socialism suddenly so popular?

Depends on what you mean by socialism. Republcians have a definition of socialims that they're pushing that few if any support. What is becoming more popular is a brand of democratic socialism.

Pooling society’s resources to meet people’s basic needs is a tenet of social democracy, one that’s been advocated domestically by much of the labor movement and many of its political supporters among New Deal and post-New Deal liberals. This is a vision we share. But we also want more than FDR did. A robust welfare state in an economy that’s still organized around capitalists’ profits can mitigate the worst inequalities for a while, but it’s at best a temporary truce between bosses and workers — and one that the former will look to scrap as soon as they can.

Democratic socialism, explained by a democratic socialist

Democratic, capitalistic, strong social services by the State.

Its becoming increasingly popular largely because the issues it describes specifically are popular. And the Republican tactic of ignoring what these people actually advocate and trying to recast them as essentially Soviets......doesn't work as well as it used to.
