The mistake is in the idea that obama would have control of the military. Morsi in Egypt is president and thought he had control of the military too. The rank and file military is disciplined and will follow orders. They follow the orders of their commanders. The president can stamp his feet and flail his arms but unless the commanders give the orders to their men nothing happens. What orders will the commanders give?

How many presidents thought they had control of the military when the people rebelled? Zeyala in Honduras. Ceaucescu in Romania. Ferdinand Marcos. Modern history is littered with such mistakes.
